Jennifer Lawrence's Hacker Is Going to Jail

The man who hacked Jennifer Lawrence and more than 30 other celebrities has officially been prosecuted, according to The Guardian.

Back in 2014, Edward Majerczyk organized a phishing scheme and stole private photos from many famous people and leaked them online.

In court, Edward explained that he gained access to celebrity’s accounts by pretending to be an agent of an internet service provider and asking them for username and password information.

Edward has been sentenced to nine months in jail and ordered to pay $5,700 in restitution fees, which is set to recuperate therapy expenses incurred by one of the victims.

His attorney says he has been deeply affected by the fallout from the scandal and had been suffering from depression at the time of the hacking.

He’s suffered depression for stealing and publishing someone else’s private photos? Give me a break.

  • Just Saying

He gained access to celebrity’s accounts by pretending to be an agent of an internet service provider and asking them for username and password information… What kind of imbecile gives away their password? Not even to a real internet provider you should give away your personal info like that. I felt bad for them but this only proves that the celebrities involved where a bunch of idiots who probably deserved it.

no one deserves to have their private parts shared on the internet without their consent. that’s a gross and terrible thing to do to a person. he should have gotten more jail time. i agree with jlaw that it’s a sex crime.

just because they’re dumb (and a lot of them are) doesn’t mean they should have their bodies on display like they are objects. they’re people. they’re *women* and it’s disgusting how we treat women still nowadays.

But it can never go away. I hate that about the Internet. I also believe he deserved a longer sentence. We’re sending a bad message to other people who are thinking of doing something like this.

  • Do Tell

Yes, I can only imagine how I would feel if there were nude photos of me floating around on the Internet. When people rob from you or take something you didn’t give them, you feel completely violated. I’d tell the courts they’d have to do more than that for my pain and suffering afterward.
