Boy Scouts of America Ends Ban on Transgender Children

Boy Scouts of America have taken a major step forward, announcing that they will now allow transgender children to be a part of their organization.

In a statement, the group wrote that transgender children who identify as boys will be able to enroll in boys only programs, effective immediately.

“For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, along with schools, youth sports and other youth organizations, have ultimately deferred to the information on an individual’s birth certificate to determine eligibility for our single-gender programs,” the statement read.

They added, “However, that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state….Our organization’s local councils will help find units that can provide for the best interest of the child.”

The announcement comes soon after an 8-year-old transgender child was asked to leave his troop after it was discovered he was transgender.

We’re so glad to hear that the organization had decided to become so inclusive!
