Elizabeth Warren Silenced by Senate for Quoting Coretta Scott King, Celebs React

Sen. Elizabeth Warren was silenced by Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell while trying to voice her opposition to the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions for attorney general.

The Massachusetts senator was speaking in front of the senate on Tuesday night (February 7) when she decided to read a letter written by Martin Luther King Jr.‘s widow Coretta Scott King, in which she voiced her opposition to Sessions back in 1986.

“I write to express my sincere opposition to the confirmation of Jefferson B. Sessions as a federal district court judge for the Southern District of Alabama,” the letter read. “Anyone who has used the power of his office as United States Attorney to intimidate and chill the free exercise of the ballot by citizens should not be elevated to our courts.”

When McConnell objected to Warren‘s speech, he cited the second line as something that was over the line.

“I am surprised that the words of Coretta Scott King are not suitable for debate in the United States Senate,” Warren said.

She later took to Twitter and said, “Tonight on the Senate floor, I tried to speak about why [Sessions] is totally unfit to serve as Attorney General. On the floor, I read a letter that Coretta Scott King wrote in 1986 opposing [Sessions]‘s judicial nomination. I spoke out about [Sessions] – until McConnell decided to silence me. I will not be silent about a nominee for AG who has made derogatory & racist comments that have no place in our justice system. I will not be silent while the Republicans rubber stamp an AG who will never stand up to the @POTUS when he breaks the law. Tonight [McConnell] silenced Mrs King’s voice on the Sen floor – & millions who are afraid & appalled by what’s happening in our country.”

They need to go on a hunger strike. We all need to walk out of our jobs and cripple the economy to get him out.

I just cannot believe the hypocrisy of the right. They say they are against extremists, yet they want to have torture, are having White Supremacists endorse Trump openly, and are thinking internment camps may be okay. They said that Hillary had a terrible breach, and the Trump campaign was DIRECTLY OUTRIGHT asking for emails from a foreign nation and then Mike Pence was claiming at even the HINT of his emails getting lose on what he said he would sue whoever got it.

The only good news for Donald Trump is that he is inheriting an America that is thriving. Thanks to Barack Obama, we have a booming economy. We have recovered from the GWB economic collapse. Our stock market is off the charts. Our unemployment is lower than ever. Our gas prices are low. Healthcare is finally affordable (mine is just $85/month). Auto insurance is cheap (mine $25/month from InsurancePanda). Internet is cheap ($30/month from TWC). And students don’t have to sell their kidney to get educated.

Donald Trump, on the other hand, wants to crush education, healthcare, social security, and medicare.

I mean you have to be some kind of moron to think the right has any integrity at all at this point.

  • Visitor

Liberals need to fight back. Maybe Trump and his ilk will unite Liberals in MEANINGFUL ways. They need to get the vote out and fight for their country from these right wing racist POS.

  • Wendy

I totally agree with everything you said. People don’t give enough credit to Obama, he was literally handed a shit show and turned it around. Yes, some things need to be fixed, but nobody is perfect. Trump is on the path to putting us into another financial collapse talking about getting rid of Dodd/Frank, trying to dismantle the national park system, I men the list goes on and on. When do his supporters say enough is enough? Or will they just blindly follow him without even thinking about doing their own research, because by golly, Trump said it so it must be true!
