Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Her Postpartum Depression: 'I Didn't Think It Could Happen To Me'

Chrissy Teigen is gorgeous and make-up free as she takes the cover of the April 2017 issue of Glamour magazine, available on national newsstands on March 14!

In the mag, the 31-year-old model opens up for the first time about her postpartum depression after giving birth to her and hubby John Legend‘s daughter Luna.

On why she’s speaking out now: “I’m speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone. I also don’t want to pretend like I know everything about postpartum depression, because it can be different for everybody. But one thing I do know is that—for me—just merely being open about it helps.”

On getting her diagnosis: “Before the holidays I went to my GP for a physical. John sat next to me. I looked at my doctor, and my eyes welled up because I was so tired of being in pain. Of sleeping on the couch. Of waking up throughout the night. Of throwing up. Of taking things out on the wrong people. Of not enjoying life. Of not seeing my friends. Of not having the energy to take my baby for a stroll. My doctor pulled out a book and started listing symptoms. And I was like, ‘Yep, yep, yep.’ I got my diagnosis: postpartum depression and anxiety. (The anxiety explains some of my physical symptoms.)”

On why she kept her postpartum depression private: “I also just didn’t think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny. But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do.”

of course you had PPD, just like every other celebrity mom. BS. these Hollywood moms act like every woman suffers from PPD and they don’t. and chrissy is coming out with this now because THIRSTY!!!!

  • Do Tell

I’m wondering about so much PPD with celebrities too. Personally, I believe a lot of the depression with celebs is because of the changes motherhood brings in an atmosphere where you are praised for your beauty and expected to look a certain way.

Women’s bodies change. They had flat abs and suddenly they lose their shape and have stretch marks. Breastfeeding ruins your boobs, but many people fail to warn these new mothers about these unpleasant changes.

I think that when you’re vain you also have a harder time with aging. Many Hollywood actresses seem to hide from the cameras now that their looks have faded.

  • LolaLola

I agree but blaming it on PPD makes it seem as if every other mother out there gets it. And they don’t. Most of these celeb moms preach about body acceptance and they go crazy trying to lose pregnancy weight and return to looking PERFECT again. They are hypocrites and are obsessed with their looks.

BS. Chrissy is an attention wh0re who came up with an affliction that she could get away with. And now she wants everyone to feel sorry for her. There is almost nothing likable about Chrissy Teigen.

If you or anyone you know who might have PPD, definitely consider giving them this book called This Isn’t What I Expected http://amzn.to/2mwHm66 . It helped my sister-in-law tremendously dealing with her PPD.

Who picked that particular shot? Her left eye is floating off on some outer eyeball plane.

Anything for attention. Oops I forgot to wear underwear in a dress cut right up my snapper. Silly me.

  • Bill Bradley

LOL. Lazy eye and and overactive vagina.

    Except her husband.

  • Phil the Donahue

Considering the child abuse epidemic in the USA, I would suggest a ton of mothers suffer from a mental issue.

  • Phil the Donahue

I’m sorry ur mom had mental issues and abused you, that sucks. That sucks bad.

I had all of these symptoms but not PPD. Our bodies go through so much giving birth and the hormone changes afterwards. Just give yourself time to feel terrible and exhausted. You don’t give birth then pop up all peppy.

  • Do Tell

Like my friends always say, it’s a sign of the times. And it doesn’t seem to get better, especially with all the drug abuse and financial struggles families are going thru.

Should had said something sooner. Why now? For publicity she don’t need. Get a acting job. Staying home doing nothing for herself.
