Celebs Slam United for Forcibly Removing Customer from Overbooked Flight

Celebrities are outraged after a man was forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight on Sunday night (April 9) because the company overbooked the plane.

The flight was taking off from Chicago, Ill. en route to Louisville, Kent. After the passengers boarded the flight, they were told that four volunteers were needed to give up their seats for United employees who had to be in Louisville on Monday.

When no one volunteered, United staff reportedly chose “volunteers” at random. A spokesman for United says that four people were chosen by the computer at random and three of them left the plane. When the fourth wouldn’t deplane, law enforcement was called.

Video from the flight shows the man being ripped out of his seat by officials while other passengers expressed their outrage. The man’s head allegedly hit the armrest and you can see blood dripping from his mouth while the cops drag him down the aisle of the plane by his arms.

The man who was forcibly removed from the plane identified himself as a doctor who needed to see patients on Monday.

“We followed the right procedures,” United spokesman Charlie Hobart told the Associated Press. “That plane had to depart. We wanted to get our customers to their destinations, and when one gentleman refused to get off the aircraft, we had to call the Chicago Police Department.”

“Flight 3411 from Chicago to Louisville was overbooked,” the company said in an official statement. “After our team looked for volunteers, one customer refused to leave the aircraft voluntarily and law enforcement was asked to come to the gate. We apologize for the overbook situation. Further details on the removed customer should be directed to authorities.”

    That was horrible.

If the doctor had patients to see on Monday, pick another volunteer. Oh, and stop overbooking flights to accommodate your employees. I hope he sues the airline and the police for excessive force.

I don’t understnad – if he was already on the plane and in his seat, why would he or anyone else on the plane have to give it up? why couldn’t people not on the plane give up their booked seat? thats always how its worked when I was on a plane that was overbooked – if you got on the plane, you were on and that was that, and that was actually united!

  • SquidBillie

They need to stop overbooking for profit. He had a right to be on the flight just like anybody else, I hope he sues.

United’s “protocol” & those “cops” just made that passenger a MILLIONAIRE. Learn the hard way seems to be preferred these days.

Disgusting. Hope the guy sues not just United Airlines but the Chicago Police as well. There’s videos of his head and mouth completely covered in blood.

what the fuck are you talking about?
    have you ever flown before?
here’s a recap: you pay for your ticket, you board the plane, you arrive at your destination. that’s the only “policy”. this guy was BEATEN and DRAGGED off the plane, illegaly & inhumanely. thank god youre not a jury because youve clearly got some brain deficit if you, even in the slightest way possible, defend the airline/cops’ behaviour and do not think this guy deserves AT LEAST monetary compensation.
