Chloe Sevigny Says Self-Promotion on Instagram is 'Disgusting'

Chloe Sevigny poses for the cover of The Edit‘s latest issue, available now.

Here is what the 42-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On why she doesn’t post outfit selfies on Instagram: “I’m 42 and I’m already famous – why would I self-promote myself like that? It’s disgusting… I’m very confused by millennials. When I was a teenager, your wardrobe identified who you were. There aren’t any tribes any more. Teenagers just dressing as one.”

On receiving criticism from the press: “I think it’s inspiring for girls to see women who are not conventional beauties, women who have been judged. If Rihanna was in [my outfit], the tabloids would love it. I don’t court mainstream success, so they have a hard time understanding me. [I stopped going to fashion shows] because of this weird pressure to have ‘a look’. I don’t feel it [censure] all the time. But it’s impossible for me to go somewhere and not be judged.”

On her place in the film industry: “I’ve been around for a long time; people find authenticity in me. Within the film community, I have respect.”

“Posting selfies on Instagram is disgusting,” says the woman who performed oral sex on Vincent Gallo in a movie. I’m actually a fan of hers, but it sounds like fame has gone to her head. Get over yourself sweetie and just lest ye be judged.

  • Effy

I get what she means. Some selfies are harmless, especially if you’re feeling confident that day. I know a few girls who post selfies constantly which is sad that they need likes and comments to make them less insecure.

Chloë Sevigny being annoying since the 90′s. I like some of her work but give me a break… get over yourself!

It seems like all she does is diss others and brag about herself. I think confidence is great, but she doesn’t have to drag others to make herself seem “authentic”.

I’m just gonna assume her words were taken out of context -otherwise – she is a big kunt – instagram is not that’s serious

I love her style, and I completely understand what she’s trying to say. Yes I admit there are moments where she’s coming off as arrogant, but nothing is a greater show of arrogance than excessive selfies on one’s Instagram account.
As for the comment from Eyes Wide Open: ….you do realise she’s an ACTOR right? and she’s following a script? If you’re affronted by anyone, than be affronted by the man who wrote the script…

Love her and her style. I bet she’s right about fashion shows (cough cough.. the Jenners)
