Harry Styles Says Gay Rights Are 'Fundamental' Not 'Political'

Harry Styles is asked about his political stance in a new interview.

The 23-year-old “Sign of the Times” singer stopped by a French talk show where he was questioned about Brexit.

“I don’t really talk about politics,” Harry said. “Anything that brings people together is better than things that pull people apart.”

Then he was asked about gay rights.

“That doesn’t feel like politics to me,” Harry said. “Stuff like equality feels much more fundamental. I feel like everyone is equal. That doesn’t feel like politics to me.”

Oh these young kids these days.

Equality happens because of politics. Just sitting on the sidelines, saying politics don’t bring people together so I’m not going to talk about it, is doing nothing more than thrusting your head in the sand. I don’t want to live in a lawless society, because chaos would ensue. But that doesn’t mean I agree with the laws all the time, and that’s why every single person should be engaged and political; you change the landscape for the better and for the future.

Tell someone who can’t marry the love of their life that gay rights aren’t political. Or a woman. Or minorities. Do I wish it weren’t like that, absolutely 100%. But life and thinking evolves and so too must politics and our laws. That happens when we talk, march, protest, engage, vote, fight, insist, resist! and never give up.

Politics is nothing more than differing and shared opinions coming together. And we’re always going to be divided because people are always going to have opinions, but you CAN change opinions and open people’s minds for the better and fight so maybe, just maybe, in the foreseeable future a human being can wake up every day and not have to worry about their gender, race, religion, sexual preference, etc… and just LIVE!
