Michelle Says She Will Not Run for Office, Says 'It's Hard on a Family'

Michelle Obama is all smiles as she speaks at the American Institute of Architects Conference on Thursday (April 27) in Orlando, Fla.

During the 53-year-old former First Lady’s first public appearance, she shared that she has no plans of running for office in the future.

“It’s all well and good until you start running, and then the knives come out,” Michelle said via the Orlando Sentinel. “Politics is tough, and it’s hard on a family … I wouldn’t ask my children to do this again because, when you run for higher office, it’s not just you, it’s your whole family.”

Michelle went on to say that just because she and former President Barack Obama aren’t in the White House anymore, it doesn’t mean they’re going to stop fighting for causes they believe in.

Barack and I have been in public service our whole lives,” Michelle said. “Public service will always be in our blood.”
