Lea Michele Opens Up About a Broadway Role She Didn't Get

Lea Michele is just like everyone and has faced setbacks in her life and now she’s opening up about not getting a Broadway role she desperately wanted to get.

The 30-year-old Places singer says that she dreamed of landing a role in the recent revival of West Side Story, but she was escorted out of the audition room moments after she arrived.

“Most of the greatest success I’ve had in my life came from a door closing that then led me to something incredible. I was dreaming of being in this production of West Side Story that was coming to Broadway, and I worked so hard on the audition – literally I learned Spanish for it,” Lea told “And I get into the room, and before I can even begin – I said maybe one line – and they were like, ‘Thank you so much, have a great day!’ And they escorted me out, and I was gutted.”

“I went home and I cried so hard,” Lea added. “I’m friends with Idina Menzel, and I remember crying to her, being like, ‘What am I going to do? Like this was my dream role, I have to play this part.’ Anyways, a couple weeks later, I end up getting cast on Glee, which was the best thing that ever happened to me.”

Way before they played mother-daughter on Glee, Lea and Idina did a workshop production of a musical called Nero at Vassar College in New York back in 2008.
