'American Idol' Returning to TV, Revived By ABC!

American Idol has officially been revived and has a new home at ABC, it was announced today on Good Morning America.

American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon,” Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a statement (via Variety). “ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”

“ABC’s passion and enthusiasm make them a perfect home for American Idol,” Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia Group, added. “We are excited to be partnering with them to discover the next generation of talented artists. It’s an irresistible combination that means now is the ideal time to welcome back one of the most successful shows in the history of contemporary television.”

The show is reportedly being looked at for a March 2018 premiere on Sunday evenings. American Idol first debuted on Fox back in 2002 and ran for 15 seasons.

The host and judges for the new panel have yet to be determined, though Ryan Seacrest was recently given permission to host by Kelly Ripa!
