Miley Cyrus Says 'Malibu' Isn't a Typical Love Song (Video)
Miley Cyrus opened up about her career and performed during an appearance on The Elvis Duran Z100 Morning Show at Z100 Studio on Tuesday (May 16) in New York City.
Here’s what the 24-year-old “Malibu” singer had to share during her visit:
On what “Malibu” is about: “I think with this song too, especially because it can so easily be generalized into a love song, I had to really heal myself individually, and then this song about finding a new love with an old love, maybe you’re finding a new freedom, is also about individuality and freedom in that also, and realizing that certain doors lead you to one place you never imagined you would be and if that can be through a person, that’s really awesome! I think it can also be, people got to give me some credit too, because sometimes when I read write-ups of this song, it’s like, ‘You can tell that there’s the leading man in there that really brought her feet down to the ground.’ And those were changes that I really made and I think as a woman, I always want to take that power back and say, ‘Hey, I did that!’ I made a decision to say, ‘Hey this is what I want’ and anything that I want, I’m going to put my entire heart and brain into and make it happen.”
On whether her sister Noah asks her for advice: “No, she’s 17 so she’s like… if I were like, ‘Wear this,’ she’d be like, ‘Ew, that is disgusting!’ But then again she goes and does what I do. I’ve seen her room! I got a rainbow light, she got a rainbow light; I got a pink cactus, she got a pink cactus; and then she hides it from me! I started taking polaroids, she got a polaroid camera! It’s everything I do, and she doesn’t know I go and snoop through her room, but I do! I steal stuff, which is so weird because the roles have reversed in so many ways!”
On joking about not being a woman: “As a joke I say that, yeah as a joke. I’m like neither; I’m like a weird freak! I don’t even know, anyone that asks that and says I was a woman, I ate like six pieces of pizza last night before I went to sleep! … I shouldn’t be doing that! Everyone else is like going to sleep with cucumbers on their eyes to go to sleep, and I’m just not like that. I’m pretty gross!”
