'Grey's Anatomy' Loses a Series Regular in Season 13 Finale (Spoilers)

SPOILER ALERT – Do not continue reading if you don’t want to know Grey’s Anatomy spoilers!

The season 13 finale for Grey’s Anatomy just aired and one of the cast’s series regular said goodbye to the show during the episode.

Fans of the show who have kept up on the cast’s lives outside of the series probably won’t be surprised by the news, but some are definitely upset about it!

Jerrika Hinton, who played the role of Stephanie, said goodbye to Grey’s Anatomy during the season 13 finale. She is set to star on a new HBO drama from Alan Ball, which was ordered to series.

Jerrika previously was cast in a Shondaland pilot called Toast and would have reduced her time on Grey’s Anatomy in the past. Now, she is leaving for good.

“When Toast didn’t go, I went away and had a spiritual summer in a lot of ways. Shonda and I had a meeting at the beginning of season 13 where we talked about my departure and my creative process and she was very supportive of my wishes,” Jerrika said in a statement to THR. “And I am eternally grateful to her for understanding.”

“Actors evolve differently and when an actor like Jerrika comes to me and says she wants to try something new creatively, I like to honor that. Jerrika has shared so much of herself with Stephanie and I am incredibly proud of the journey we’ve taken together. While I’m sad to see Stephanie leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, I am excited to see what’s next for Jerrika,” Shonda Rhimes said in a statement.
