'Scandal' Season 6 Finale Spoilers - All About That Crazy Ending!

The season six finale of Scandal just aired and we need to talk about the crazy ending!

Obviously, this is your warning to look away before we start divulging spoilers, so if you don’t want to know what happened… stop reading now.

We got a whole lot of answers to some of this season’s biggest mysteries, including the identity of the person who hired Peus (David Warshofsky) and Samantha Ruland (Zoe Perry) to make sure that Frankie Vargas (Richard Chavira) did not become president.

By the end of the episode, someone was killed off and the new president was sworn in at the inauguration.

Olivia’s mom Maya (Khandi Alexander) made her return in the episode and we eventually learn that she was hired as an assassin to kill Mellie (Bellamy Young) during the inauguration. After being threatened by Olivia (Kerry Washington), Maya is sent out as bait to try and find the people who hired her, but Maya escapes from surveillance and a manhunt is ordered to stop her from assassinating Mellie.

During the inauguration, Olivia gets a call from Maya while she’s on stage. Maya is on a rooftop with a clear shot of the new president, new Vice President Luna Vargas (Tessie Santiago), and Olivia. She tells Olivia to move so that she doesn’t get hit by the bullet. Before Maya can shoot, Olivia’s dad Rowan (Joe Morton) finds her and stops her by shooting her.

The inauguration is saved, but we still don’t know who hired Maya. Olivia eventually figures out that it was Luna and that Luna was responsible for her own husband’s death.

Luna hired Peus and Ruland to make sure that her husband did not become president because she didn’t want to be First Lady. When he did get elected, they had him killed so that she would get her wish, which she says she did not know would happen. While being interrogated by Olivia, Luna admits to ordering the hit on Mellie so that she could become president and live out a Jackie Kennedy moment with the blood all over her.

Olivia tells Luna that she is going to die and she has two options, either take two pills that will cause a heart attack or have Jake (Scott Foley) put a bullet in her. She takes the pills so that her kids won’t have to know her secrets.

While telling Cyrus (Jeff Perry) about discovering Luna’s plot, Olivia realizes that Cyrus was the one to plant all these ideas in her head so that she would not be vice president anymore and he could be nominated for the position. Even though she knows this was Cyrus’ plan all along, Olivia says she will still have him nominated.

Other major developments were that Olivia is set to become the new head of B613 and also that Quinn (Katie Lowes) is pregnant!
