Nyle DiMarco Slams Jamie Foxx for Making Up Sign Language

Nyle DiMarco is speaking out to criticize Jamie Foxx for making up sign language during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The 28-year-old model, who won his seasons of America’s Next Top Model and Dancing With the Stars, is deaf and an advocate for those hard of hearing.

“.@iamjamiefoxx, It is straight up disrespectful to make up sign language. Everything is in gibberish,” Nyle tweeted.

While Jimmy was transitioning to the commercial, Jamie sat in his seat and made up random movements with his hands as if he was doing sign language.

“Also- @jimmyfallon @FallonTonight how was this allowed? Where’s the cultural sensitivity. Not comedy when you make fun of others,” Nyle added.

I could see how this is offensive, but this Nyle guy seems to be on patrol when it comes to these types of things.

  • Douglas from Brazil

But it is offensive or not?

  • Gina

To him it is, so I guess I won’t question his right to be offended.

  • plez

So is it disrespectful to playfully try speak another language?

  • DJPowell1984

i would understand it is offence if he is try intend to do to for mock sing language that i will ranted and rave the mad for these action it is not accept as bully and peck of fun on sign langauge.

but if he try effort to do it, it is not bad attempt just offer him sign language lesson, and it is good try be fair on him.. well done to him to try.

  • Hypnotist

It would be really funny if Jamie and Jimmy recorded an audio-only apology.

  • skye3245

This guy Nyle is always trying to come out and start something. Did he care to ask Jamie if he was directing it at someone? He could have a special set of signs for maybe his sister, whi is mentally challenged, or even a fan or someone close to him. Not everything is meant to be funny or trying to be controversial. Nyle is trying to his moment. Jamie wasn’t even smiling or anything in the video. He could have had an agreement with a fan he met and said “i’m gonna do our thing on Jimmy tonight so watch ‘ll be just for us”. Plus does Nyle know every sign thats out there? Prob not. Because for every new word new signs need to be made. Maybe ask and see and not try to extend your moment by calling celebs and epl with more talent then you ignorant or saying they are being offensive.I’m more offended that Nyle is still showing up places when he has done nothing for the deaf community or in his career.e

  • SaraJ

Jamie was definitely smiling and joking around.. hence Jimmy laughing.

  • SaraJ

If you’re “pretending” to know a language, yes – Chinese for example and saying “ching ching chong”; that’s offensive. Remember the backlash at Rosie O’Donnell for doing that on the View?

  • skye3245

I saw in the clip Jimmy looked back and I didn’t see any course of mockery coming from Jamie. Its a humor filled show so of course he’s going to be smiling. And still it doesn’t counter to fact that it could have been directed at someone specific. There are many times when ppl have gone on these live shows(mind you they are taped earlier in the day) and do hidden things directed sometimes to fans or ppl they know. Its been shown that some celebs will do something specific for a sick fan or an iberian or friend or family member because they know they are watching. Nyle has no background to immediately say he was mocking the deaf community. All this was hindsight on a “before they shoot to commercial” moment. He doesn’t even have the entire segment for us to gather any facts. So basically we take this as a judgement. When Nyle has been coming at various public figures with no evidence. Its becoming his behavior

  • skye3245

i’m not saying Jamie did or didn’t. My point is context, history, intention, and the such. We don’t have enough to make judgements. And oddly enough Nyle gives us no context just what he said and we again are supposed to trust what he says as law.

  • AeeJay

He’s disabled. Its not cool to offend someone’s disability by pretending to speak their language. Its insensitive.

  • Gina

Yeah, I think it’s offensive if the language is tied to a specific ethnicity, like in the example you just gave. But if someone were to pretend to know French, for example, then I imagine it would be less offensive.

  • SaraJ

Huh. I think French people would disagree that imitating their language with no basis is not offensive.

  • Gina

Yes, but I don’t see it as being rooted in racism like imitating Chinese would be, for example. I stand by what I said.

  • Sara

And why shouldn’t he be? He is making the issues visible. If you agree it is offensive then why in the world would you have a problem with him calling people out on it?

  • Sara

Wow, you are totally and completely delusional.

  • Sara

What in the world are you trying to say?

  • Sara

    Yes. Yes it is.

  • Gina

Calm down, I believe in picking your battles. This is something you should do yourself, actually.

  • SaraJ

Then you’re a stubborn idiot. Nyle didn’t say it’s racist, he said it’s offensive. It would be offensive to the French, the Chinese, and yes the deaf.

  • Gina

Hey you obnoxious dummy, you’re mixing up two different topics. I know what the f*ck he said. Different things are offensive for different reasons.

  • skye3245

So we resort to name calling? In not any reply that I have made did i reference any of your statements in a derogatory or antagonistic manner. As adults I feel we can have a conversation or debate in a manner befitting adults. There is evidence of Nyle speaking from his “opinion” and going on social media to state someone is defaming someone without evidence. Also, not once in my reply did i call you anything of sort in the form of what your stating back to me. If you would like to have an adult tempered conversation we can. Otherwise the resorting to name calling does not get any point you are trying to state across. Especially since neither your nor I are any of the parties referred to in this article.

  • James Mewborn

Agreed! This guy is stupid☝ but u won’t see me making fun of him
