James Cromwell Sentenced to Jail for Not Paying Protest Fines

James Cromwell has been sentenced to seven days in jail after he refused to pay fines associated with an arrest during a protest.

The 77-year-old Oscar-nominated actor, best known for his work in films like Babe and L.A. Confidential as well as the American Horror Story series, was among six protestors who were arrested for a sit-in at a power plant in upstate New York.

Cromwell and the others, who refer to themselves as the “Wawayanda Six,” protested the opening of a natural gas power plant being built in the town. It’s set to open in February 2018 and environmental activists say it will have a negative impact on the environment.

“If we don’t stay together, nothing will change,” Cromwell told the Times Herald-Record of Middletown. “Power to the people.”

Ahh the last hurrah’s of the 60′s hippies before they become compost. Maybe he can protest more universities with dismembered Cat videos about animal testing.

I will respect him if he serves his time rather than a “Celebrity” payoff. Watch – he will quietly pay his 375 dollar fine, so he doesn’t have to shower with the other prisoners, and the story will fade away.

So, Whitey Bulger, charged with 19 murders

  • Mr Creosote

What does the 7 day sentence for refusing to pay his fine have to do with your example?

  • Nabeel

Do you know who he is? People admire him, despite the fact he actually killed people, unlike Charles Manson. Although Bulger and Cromwell look alike, Cromwell committed civil disobedience, which is what Gandhi, Rosa Parks, and MLK stood for.

    So, Whitey Bulger?

  • Larry Wilson

how many of the Black Lives Matter people paid fines or been jailed? They have done a lot worse and nothing! Why?

  • Mr Creosote

Yes I know who Bulger is…. just not seeing why his choosing jail instead of a couple hundred dollar fine.
    People admire John Gotti too.

Um Charles Manson is a killer. You are trying to draw a pretty fine line to absolve a cult leader, from the actions of his ‘flock’ – -
Hitler never personally killed any jews either…. so is a charismatic bystander?

  • Nabeel

Why is Charles Manson more hated than Whitey Bulger? I would like to know this. Everywhere I go, people call Bulger a true gangsters, while hating on Manson.

  • Nabeel

I’m not trying to absolve his actions. I actually find it immature when people hate on others online. Calling them “POS.” Death threats. I wish we could have a civilized conversation online.

  • Mr Creosote

    People don’t like cult leaders.
Thayt is why when Bill Clinton and janet Reno raided the Davidians in Waco… nobody blinked that they burned the place down with the kids inside.
Nobody liked Reveredn Jim Jones, and his Kool Aid massacre.

Individual killer has more respect that a cult leader that manipulates others down a dark path. I don’t like Bulger either…. but somehow the cult leader with the swastika tatoo… is the ‘representation of evil’ in the minds of many.
Thought it odd to bring him into this discussion on the basis that “HE never actually PERSONALLY pulled the trigger”…. seems pretty non-sequitar

  • Nabeel

Manson is like Cartman or Hitler, Bulger like Stewie or Stalin. Yes, I’ve seen insults of Bulger online. But still. Bulger was a mob boss, but is believed to have actually pulled the trigger, runnng over, stabbing.

well that’s about stupid of Mister Cromwell

  • Mr Creosote

But mobsters killing eachother doesn’t get people riled up. Kind of like hearing about the latest gang shooting…. people just shrug their shoulders.

But once it is a cult leader… well that there is some ‘news’
