Venus Williams Did Not Break the Law During Fatal Car Crash, According to Police

Venus Williams did not break the law in a deadly car accident last month.

A new video shows that the 37-year-old tennis star legally entered the intersection where the accident occurred.

In the video, Venus‘ car can be seen entering the intersection under a green light, pausing briefly in the intersection and then continuing.

Moments later, her car was struck by a driver, whose 78-year-old husband later died of injuries sustained in the accident.

“The update from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department and video released today show that Venus lawfully entered the intersection on a green light and was impeded in her progress through the intersection,” her attorney Malcom Cunningham said in a statement.

He continued, “As the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department points out, once Ms. Williams entered the intersection lawfully, she had the right to proceed through the intersection and other vehicles including those with a red light changing to green, were obligated to yield the right-of-way to Ms. Williams.”

Venus‘ attorney added that she “remains deeply saddened by the loss suffered by the Barson family and continues to keep them in her thoughts and prayers.”

Good for her – and that’s why you wait for evidence to come out.

I like Venus, but I feel that because she’s famous and likeable, that they are giving her special treatment. The cops didnt want to release the evidence. And again, I like her, but someone’s life was lost. I hope everyone is being honest in the situation

The person crashed into Venus’ car because they were speeding up and she was in an awkward position at the intersection because she wanted drive carefully because of another car prior to this crash.

My condolences to the Barson family but this video evidence clearly shows she WAS NOT AT FAULT.

  • forest4trees

Sadly the Barson driver stated she was only “slowing” for the red light and when it Turned green she proceeded at speed through the intersection. All motorists have a responsibility to avoid collisions in California … maybe in Florida too!

I meant Venus was driving carefully since prior to the crash, she almost collided with another car and she was clearly a safe driver here. The Barson car was largely at fault.

I also blame “eye witnesses” and thank God this video came up in the light of day. The people were vilifying her for no reason and so did the police force. Unbelievable and clearly had some racial prejudice against her too. I also think because of how high profile Venus is as an athlete, she was fortunate to have proof in the pudding.

If she innocent, then I want her to not get in any trouble. But if she isnt, I want justice. And the cops were acting funny! But yall say she innocent, then Im cool with her not getting in any treatment!

  • Legendary Trolly

Yes I read it, and you should read my comment opposed to just skimming it!!

  • Legendary Trolly

I dont know all the street laws. I know that the cops were acting shady! If she innocent then I dont want her to get in any ill-deserved trouble. But I dont want her to get special treatment, and for them to lie like she did nothing wrong!
