Donald Trump Tweets that Transgender People Won't Be Allowed to Serve in Military

Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to say that he will not allow transgender individuals serve in the United States Military.

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you,” the 71-year-old President tweeted.

Already, the tweets are causing huge controversy and have thousands of replies.

According to reports, there are thousands of transgender troops now serving. These transgender individuals are allowed to serve openly, as per a policy announced in July of 2016. It’s unclear how Trump‘s new decree will effect those now serving.
