Looks good! Happy to see that Angie still carrying on with film projects that have special meaning to her and her causes. Brad too continues to deliver great work with War Machine. Looking forward to seeing this.

Looks great. Hollywierd might get upset because an unknown little Cambodian girl is a better actress than most of holly weirds actors and actresses 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  • Puma

Why bring the ex into this? War machine was not great work according to most and Netflix has not said how well it did. Wonder why?

First They Killed My Father’ Trailer: Angelina Jolie’s Netflix Film About Khmer Rouge Tragedy

    Netflix
Here is the first trailer for the Toronto International Film Festival-bound Angelina Jolie-directed First They Killed My Father, a harrowing Netflix drama about young Cambodian girl Loung Ung as she and her family struggled to survive the brutal genocide of the Khmer Rouge regime that murdered one-quarter of the population after the United States withdrew from Vietnam. Jolie wrote the script with Ung, and produced it with Cambodian-born documentary filmmaker Rithy Panh. While recent headlines focused on an improvisational exercise used during the casting of local children — Jolie and Panh heatedly disputed the version of events depicted in Vanity Fair — the film is actually a tremendous accomplishment. It is a grand scale period epic shot entirely in Cambodia, using local cast and shot in Khmer language by Jolie, whose long love affair with the country began while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Panh told Deadline in a lengthy statement that these factors helped make First They Killed My Father a cathartic step forward in processing a traumatic national tragedy, one made relatable by its vantage point: the eyes of a child struggling to survive while processing unimaginable trauma and violence all around her.

    TIFF
Here is Panh’s translated statement: “This film is important to the people of Cambodia because it is the first time that one of the most crucial periods of our history has been told on such a major scale and shot in our country and in our Khmer language. This is all thanks to the strength of character of Angelina Jolie, who was able to convince, bring together, and unite the talent and energy of the actors, technicians, workers, and all the other people involved in the film, in order to present the historical facts as accurately as possible, in a way that respects our memory. A film is a viewpoint, a personal narrative; it does not answer all the questions, but it contributes to a dialogue and to the passing on of knowledge from one generation to the next.

“This film has also been an opportunity for us to show that, 40 years after the disaster and the destruction of the lifeblood of our country, we have been able to rebuild a vibrant and competitive film industry, which is capable of creating, organizing, designing, and producing a film that carries our story across borders and across the whole world.

“It is an homage to those who were lost. They did not die in vain, and the world will not forget them.

“Many Cambodians cried when they watched the film. Cinematic fiction incorporates individual stories, and finds a particular resonance with each individual’s story. Looking through the eyes of others enables us to confront our own history, to recognize ourselves in that history, to regain our dignity, and to reconcile ourselves with irreparable loss.”

    The trailer looks really good.

interesting: Angelina Jolie’s son Maddox, adopted from Cambodia in 2002, is listed as an executive producer of #FirstTheyKilledMyFather
    https://twitter.com/cashleelee/status/892748667106582529

I hate it this kind of remark from the media they never acknowledged that Maddox is also Brad Son.

  • loff

I love the poster, very striking image.

  • ali7

Also the trailer is trending on twitter this will have not happen without that VF controversy

  • TaraTeller

As if a 14 year old knows anything about being an executive producer. Angelina’s crazy.

  • TaraTeller

write a book, why don’t you?

  • TaraTeller

another flop for Angelina. at least people don’t have to pay extra money if they want to see it.

  • TaraTeller

    better than Angelina for sure.

  • loff

They say no publicity is bad publicity, due to VF stupidity and lies its given the movie exposur..

  • lyric

The trailer looks very authentic. I believe this will be a good film and educational for the viewers. I’m looking forward to it.

  • Puma

i bet money it will do better than war flop- I mean war machine. Netflix doesn’t even want to share those numbers.

  • Puma

Do you know what executive producer is? Even brad pitt can do that without being on set and never meeting the cast but takes full credit…. Maddox put in work and probably deserved more credit than just EP.

  • Puma

It’s a copy and paste from deadline holly weird, dummy.

  • loff

Loung Ung will be so proud.

  • Puma

Better than your fave brad… That’s for DAMN sure. LoL

  • TaraTeller

Brad’s a very good actor and is well respected and loved by his peers. Angelina is not and she’s a terrible actress.

  • TaraTeller

Maybe it will do as well as By The Sea LMAO….man that was a load of crap.

  • TaraTeller

Why yes, I do. You don’t.

The role of the Executive Producer is to oversee the work of the producer on behalf of the studio, the financiers or the distributors. They will ensure the film is completed on time, within budget, and to agreed artistic and technical standards.

  • TaraTeller

    still too long

Oh wow that is amazing. The art department is on point.

  • Originaljpf

Why respond to someone who is obviously trying to bait? Notice I don’t/won’t even say their name. Ignore them. Don’t waste your time trying to explain something they have no interest in knowing. Seriously, whats the point of acknowledging them? None. Have a great day :)

  • William Bradley & The Jolie

    Morning Everyone.

    FINALLY!

Looks good. Very evocative. I love that there is no real dialogue.

What I don’t like is that unnecessary push text about Angelina and Ung. That could have been more subtly woven into the piece. It jumped out too much and made it seem like they couldn’t trust you to be interested.

But other than that minor quibble I like this very much.

I am getting good vibes on reception. Think this may just be the one the finally breaks the critical wall.

  • loff

Have you seen the poster, its so good too.

  • whodunit?

Wow. Very impressive trailer. Well done.

  • loff

    Worth the wait.

  • William Bradley & The Jolie

    Oh, thanks.

Hmm. Think we’ll have to disagree a little about the poster. I’m not as crazy about this.

Maybe I’m looking for something that gives a little more sense of what got taken away.

  • loff

Well the name gives that away. What was taken awy.

  • Dawne

I like the trailer. It totally sets the tone and the child lead seems compelling.

On a different note I laughed out loud at this one…….he is the best at everything……………………why he hasn’t instagrammed the size of his bowel movements being the biggest ever is beyond me. He and Lincoln the best presidents ever…………after six months of the most failing administration in the history of the presidency…….the moron just has NO SHAME!

  • William Bradley & The Jolie

    True.

I hadn’t considered that directly in conjunction with the poster, but I think I still would prefer just a bit more show and not tell.

  • Originaljpf

I’m so proud of her. My cousins wife’s parents escaped Cambodia in 1975 and this movie is highly anticipated in the American Cambodian community. I think Angelina won’t disappoint them. I know she’s taken great care in telling this story.

  • Originaljpf

    Yes it is.

  • loff

Well she sure did not disappoint the audiences when she premiured it in Cambodia, so hopefully rest of the people will support this movie too.

My friend’s husband’s family escaped Cambodia during civil war. Not this one–I think she said something about purple???? But her husband was an infant……and she told me his mom was terrified that she would have to kill him bc they were hiding out in the woods with a hungry baby.
