George & Amal Clooney Announce One Million Dollar Donation to Fight Injustice & Inequality

George and Amal Clooney‘s foundation is donating one million dollars to fight injustice, racism, and inequality.

“Amal and I wanted to add our voice (and financial assistance) to the ongoing fight for equality,” the couple said in a statement (via Deadline) after announcing that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is partnering with the Clooney Foundation for Justice . “There are no two sides to bigotry and hate.”

“We are proud to support the Southern Poverty Law Center in its efforts to prevent violent extremism in the United States. What happened in Charlottesville, and what is happening in communities across our country, demands our collective engagement to stand up to hate,” the statement continued.

If you didn’t know, President Donald Trump did not immediately condemn white supremacists after the terrible events in Charlottesville earlier this month.

only charity i contribute to. they are a dedicated ethical responsible group and their work under the radar is impressive. unlike other charities i am sure they will put the money to excellent uses for many many causes ppl are not even aware of. those who hate need to research some of their causes and bodies of work. i stand with them and care not what others feel.research not judgement.

SLPC lists over 1000 organizations as hate groups. Many of these are widely accepted but the list continues to grow with the controversial additions of conservative organizations. Conservative political stances that the SLPC disagrees with are now targeted, many of these additions are organizations for the general welfare of American citizens and are not associated with hate.

Roundtable calls it out: “The SPLC is a cash-collecting machine. In 2015 it vacuumed up $50 million in contributions and foundation grants, a tidy addition to its $334 million holdings of cash and securities and its headquarters worth $34 million. ‘They’ve never spent more than 31 percent of the money they were bringing in on programs, and sometimes they spent as little as 18 percent. Most nonprofits spend about 75 percent on programs,’ noted Jim Tharpe, managing editor of the SPLC’s hometown newspaper, the Montgomery Advertiser, in a talk at Harvard’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism.”
