Lena Headey Details Encounters with Harvey Weinstein: 'I Felt Completely Powerless'

Lena Headey has released a lengthy statement on Twitter adding her name to the list of stars who have had encounters with Harvey Weinstein where they were subject to sexual misconduct.

“The first time I met Harvey Weinstein was at The Venice Film Festival. The Brothers Grimm was showing there, (during shooting I was subjected to endless bullying by the director Terry Gilliam). At one point Harvey asked me to take a walk down to the water, I walked down with him and he stopped and made some suggestive comment, a gesture, I just laughed it off, I was genuinely shocked. I remember thinking, ‘It’s got to be a joke.’ I said something like, ‘Oh come on mate?! It’d be like kissing my dad! Let’s go get a drink, get back to the others.’ I was never in any other Miramax film,” the 44-year-old Game of Thrones actress wrote on her Twitter account.

“The next time was in LA. Years later. I had always carried the thought that he’d never try anything with me again, not after I’d laughed and said, ‘never in a million years.’ I believed that he respected my boundary and maybe he wanted to talk about potential work. He asked me to meet for breakfast. We ate breakfast, we talked about films, filmmaking. He asked me a few questions about the state of my love life. I shifted the conversation back to something less personal. Then he went to the loo. He came back and said, ‘Let’s go up to the room, I want to give you a script.’ We walked to the lift and the energy shifted. My whole body went into high alert. The lift was going up and I said to Harvey, ‘I’m not interested in anything other than work, please don’t think I got in here with your any other reason, nothing is going to happen.’ I don’t know what possessed me to speak out at that moment, only that I had such a strong sense of ‘don’t come near me,’” she wrote.

“He was silent after I spoke, furious. We got out of the lift and walked to his room. His hand was on my back, he was marching me forward, not a word. I felt completely powerless, he tried his key card and it didn’t work. Then he got really angry. He walked me back to the lift, through the hotel to the valet, by grabbing and holding tightly to the back of my arm. He paid for my car and whispered in my ear, ‘Don’t tell anyone about this, not your manager, not your agent.’ I got into my car and I cried,” she concluded.

Terry Gilliam is a known POS. he signed the Polanski petition.

  • Ram

as did many people’s favs – David Lynch, Wes Anderson, JLaw’s boyfriend (talk about hypocrisy, JLaw), Cuaron and Inarratu (the latter winning Leo his Oscar) – EVEN Asia Argento, one of Weinstein’s victims, signed the Polanski petition. Maybe take your name off that Asia, it’s hypocrisy at its peak.

  • meme

so he didn’t do anything to her, right? and she cried about it? she’s just jumping on the bandwagon.

  • meme

    she probably signed it too,.

  • rui santos

I love you so much right now! The thing is everyone here knows this! They are such hypocrites.

  • Danae

Yet all of them took the opportunity to boost their careers despite the harassment and keep their mouth pursed.

  • 777

Did you miss the part where she said she never worked with him after that?

  • starchy

she’s not ‘crying’ about it idiot. she’s describing her experience and how it affected her career.

  • starchy

Oh for Pete’s sake, there’s a difference between signing a petition and telling the press about how Weinstein came onto you and/or sexually abused you. That doesn’t make them hypocrites, it just makes their decisions pragmatic, as yours would be in the same professional situation. So get off your collective higher moral grounds.

She said she got in her car and cried afterwards. Now who’s the idiot?

  • Ram

agreed. they all knew. they ALL knew. and they should all be dragged for it.

  • Ram

Im not discounting Asia’s experience w/rape, but to sign a petition saying you support someone who indisputedly raped little girls….best believe Im, and everyone else, is going to call out the hypocrisy. You can’t talk about your own and then not give a damn about others – that makes no sense what so ever. .all she has to do is take her name off the list. it really isnt that hard.

  • Ram

I think JLaw is the best example of this. There is no one more who took advantage of Harvey’s grossness and turned a blind eye to other victims because she was getting something out of it. I hope her career crashes now that Harvey cant buy oscars for her.

  • Ram

    still you, dude. still you.

  • sarah

what blind eye ? she reacted to this whole scandal…

  • meme

Not a dude. A self respecting woman. Now scoot along.

  • J.K.

Self respecting? You’ve been defending this gross man on every article.
