Blu-Ray and Digital HD Releases

Atomic Blonde

Backed by John Wick’s director David Leitch, and supported by a stellar cast of Charlize Theron and James McAvoy, Atomic Blonde has arrived on Blu-Ray and Digital HD this week.

Charlize Theron plays an elite MI6 assassin, Lorraine Broughton, who is sent on a covert mission during the Berlin Cold War. She is tasked with recovering a highly sensitive list of agent names that was taken from a murdered MI6 operative. Helping her along the way, she is paired with a street thug named David Percival whose allegiances are questioned throughout.

Like John Wick, the film has a general gritty feel throughout that really blends well with the story that’s being told. However, what’s amplified in the style and overall look of the film, the deeper storylines get a bit muddled. But the movie as a whole works in that the music, Charlize Theron’s magnetic sensual acting, and great action scenes really drive this film.

The film was based off a graphic novel, and the overall look and feel fits well to that aesthetic. Since the film was originally made for digital, the transfer looks great, however this tends to be more forgiving with the darker films. The DTS:X Master Audio sounds great with the soundtrack of the film and shines especially for the underwater scenes.

Extras for this release include Deleted Scenes, an interview with Charlize Theron on what attracted her to this film, in addition, to a break down of a major fight scene from the film.

Overall, fans of John Wick would appreciate this film due to the gritty feel and action sequences throughout the film. This is recommended for any action movie fans who appreciate a strong female lead, a nostalgic 80s vibe, and some fun.
