Chandler Riggs‘ character Carl Grimes is being killed off the show after getting bit by a walker a few episodes ago. The character’s final episode will be the mid-season premiere on February 25.

“Yes, Carl is going to die,” Riggs told THR. “There’s no way he can get back from that. His story is definitely coming to an end.”

Chandler said that leaving the show was not his decision.

“Watching [showrunner Scott] Gimple fire my son 2 weeks before his 18th birthday after telling him they wanted him for the next 3 years was disappointing,” Chandler‘s dad wrote on Facebook. “I never trusted Gimple or AMC but Chandler did. I know how much it hurt him. But we do absolutely know how lucky we have been to be a part of it all and appreciate all the love from fans all these years!”

yeah sorry but Carl wasn’t a beloved character…I think we all can agree that he was a pain in the ass.

aka my son was working so I didn’t have to and now he’s unemployed.

He’ll still make money from cons and his dad is only burning bridges and damaing future employment. who gives a shit he was 2 weeks from his birthday? i got fired from my job the day before my 22nd birthday and I wasn’t earning anywhere near as much as a 17 year old that was able to buy his own home.

actor loses job, boo fricking hoo

  • Vanity

lets be honest they killed off Carl because they didn’t have the balls to kill off any of the remaining original cast, or Michonne. they needed a shock value as always. this show has terrible writing & without Daryl or Rick it tanks.

  • Jett Rink

    Poor kid.

  • cinemaniac

He was the most annoying character in the show. And his father sounds arrogant too. Wasn’t there a blind gossip about him, giving set tour in walking dead and earn money from there?
P.s. this show must finish. What three more season???? What the f are they talking about?

  • cinemaniac

I hope he gets a haircut.

  • Raspitou

This boy’s father is an entitled punk, and teaching him the wrong lesson.

It’s not personal, you dolt. You make it sound as if they cruelly “fired” your son, how unjust! Listen, it’s a STORY, with characters, and the amount of work ANY actor gets is in service to the story. And no matter what was said before, story plans change and the storytellers have every right to change it to serve the audience.

That’s right – the audience comes first, not your precious son’s financial interests. Who knew, right? And who knew that “The Walking Dead” is a show notorious for killing off, well, everybody….and that any actor lucky enough to survive as many seasons as your son has is insanely lucky.

Imagine if every actor killed up to now had such sour grapes as yours, releasing lame “parting shot” statements that only make the sender look bad and no one else.

The fact that it was 2 days or 2 weeks or 2 years before his 18th birthday is immaterial – it has nothing to do with anything. What, you think a major TV production should alter its schedule and plans because of your kid’s upcoming birthday? Really? Is he that much of an entitled birthdayzilla, that he thinks the world owes him much more than a card and a greeting, if that?

At the end, you act grateful, but only after biting the hand that feeds – saying that Gimple and AMC are untrustworthy, implying that your son was betrayed, and that your son was “fired” unfairly and inconsiderately what with his impending birthday and all.

Shame on you. Not only are you teaching your son to be an entitled brat by modeling that behavior splendidly, you’re also making casting directors take note of how it’s better to avoid hiring your son because he has a diva stage-dad who will air his petty, dirty-laundry grievances in public. Stay classy.

OMG the seething, raging, entitlement! Nobody owes your kid a job. Also, sorry to say it, but he’s not that great of an actor! Hope he squirreled his money away in a safe place for his future education and other needs. He is very lucky to have had such a long run for a totally unknown and inexperienced child actor!!

  • Penny Dreadful

This guy embarrassed himself ROYALLY. HIs son is so lucky to have had the consistent work and income he had over the past several years. He was an unknown, a local Georgia boy with no experience and he landed a prime spot on a hot show and they kept him employed for YEARS. I wonder if the family wasted the kid’s money and are now almost broke — maybe there’s something else going on to make the dad lash out. Maybe he made an investment with a bunch of the kid’s money, thinking the kid had another 3 years of cushy employment to make it up. There has to be some reason he lashed out like that. Insulting the people who gave his kid a job!! BAD MOVE. Who will want to work with Chandler Riggs now??

  • Penny Dreadful

This is true. And I think the writers just didn’t want to invest in Carl Grimes anymore. He was a one-note character and not very well performed by the actor either.

  • Penny Dreadful

EXACTLY. Makes me wonder if Dear Old Dad didn’t spend a bunch of the kid’s money on a business venture or some kind of investment or built a new house — thinking it was no big deal because he expected the kid to have 3 more years of employment ahead of him.

  • Penny Dreadful

I agree. The dad sounds like a creep, and the kid’s career will suffer for it — never badmouth your employers. THEY are the ones who help you get MORE work with good references and connections. Dear Old Dad just screwed the pooch.

Yes, TWD needs to come to an end. Give the fans a satisfying resolution with a hopeful future for the characters, and close this thing up. I cannot IMAGINE 3 more seasons of this show.

  • Penny Dreadful

Somebody yelled at me on another thread for saying the kid is a terrible actor. Well, it’s the truth. Not only is the character uninspiring, boring, and super annoying, but season after season you can see the actor struggle with his performance. It just got worse and worse when the demands of Carl’s impending adulthood called for a deeper level of acting. The actor just can’t deliver.

  • Visitor

Daddy is mad the paychecks will no longer be coming in. I bet daddy’s “negotiating demands” had a role in the firing.

  • Kary

this season sucks anyways… this show needs to be canceled asap, I don’t really care anymore

  • Vanity

I think everyone on the show is horrible except for Reedus & Lincoln

I think everyone’s horrible but the woman who plays Carol and the man who plays Morgan, though the Morgan character has really lost his charm and I can feel it in the actor’s performance.

  • Paul Thibault

I think he did, like right away

  • Paul Thibault

I’m sure he still gets royalties from syndication and Netflix streaming as well. Though I don’t know if Netflix is obligated to pay royalties to the actors of the shows they stream
