Olympian Shani Davis Slams Opening Ceremony Flag Bearer Coin Toss

American speedskater Shani Davis is not pleased with the Pyeongchang Olympics opening ceremony flag bearer selection process, and he made his thoughts known on Twitter.

If you don’t know, the 35-year-old athlete won two gold medals and two silver medals at the Olympics over the course of his career. He also became the first black athlete to win an individual gold at the Winter Olympics back in 2006.

Shani was one of eight candidates who was up for the honor of carrying the flag during the opening ceremony. United States’ representative for the opening ceremony had four votes for him and four votes for luge athlete Erin Hamlin. Erin won via a coin toss.

“I am an American and when I won the 1000m in 2010 I became the first American to 2-peat in that event,” Shani tweeted. “@TeamUSA dishonorably tossed a coin to decide its 2018 flag bearer. No problem. I can wait until 2022. #BlackHistoryMonth2018 #PyeongChang2018″
