Queer Eye's Antoni Porowski Explains His Basic Recipes

Antoni Porowski, the food expert on Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot, has received some criticism for how basic some of his recipes are and now he’s responding to the social media chatter.

The 33-year-old chef, who was once original Queer Eye food expert Ted Allen‘s personal chef and assistant, says that the recipes are so simple as he’s teaching them to beginners.

“I remember the first episode I went in and literally did a three-course meal with multiple components and I was thinking ‘Yes, I’m going to show off my skills here and this is going to be a full on cooking show,’” Antoni told People. “But what I realized is that it’s the simple little things. This guy had never really prepared a meal for himself.”

The recipe that Antoni taught the man on the first episode was guacamole using avocado, cilantro, lime juice, and greek yogurt. He added, “This is somebody who’s never seen the inside of an avocado. Like that’s what we’re dealing with.”

“We have to be realistic,” Antoni continued. “I’m not going to completely change this person’s way of life in such a short amount of time, but just show that there are healthier options. You may not have access to this amazing farmer’s market the way we do in New York or L.A.”

There’s always got to be people out there picking at something isn’t there.
Antoni is my favourite of the new Queer Eye team and I feel he does a great job dealing with essentially what he’s been handed. Like he says, these guys have rarely cooked before, asking so much of them in one foul swoop along with (usually) entertaining your guests at the end is a lot to take on. People need to be more concerned with genuine issues in life today. Besides if you want recipes go watch Martha Stewart.
