#MeToo Founder Tarana Burke Speaks Out About Ryan Seacrest at Oscars 2018

Tarana Burke, who founded the #MeToo movement, is speaking out about E!’s choice to have Ryan Seacrest host the 2018 Oscars red carpet pre-show, despite the sexual misconduct allegations against him.

“I feel like we should be celebrating the fact that people are finally paying attention to what we’ve been talking about for decades,” Tarana told Variety. “They really shouldn’t send him [to the Oscars]. We shouldn’t have to make those choices of, ‘Do we or don’t we?’”

“This is not about his guilt or innocence,” Tarana continued. “It’s about there being an accusation that’s alive, and until they sort of out, it’s really on E! News and shouldn’t be on us. … It will let us know where they stand in terms of how respectful E! News is of this issue – and of women.”

    very eloquently spoken.

i disagree. i don’t think people should “banned” because of an accusation. so far not a single person accused has been charged with anything. i’m not saying the accused are innocent but not all of them are guilty of a heinous act.

  • Seriously

If Seacrest’s accuser tried to extort millions of dollars from him as he claims then E! should be able to provide proof of that before he hits the red carpet. Or at least sworn testimony that this actually happened. She’s already provided a witness to her account. Seacrest hasn’t provided much of anything.

According to Tara its guilty until proven innocent. Moron…

Women are waging a hate campaign and do not care about collateral damage. Women are out to destroy every man they can. Man needs to take back his penis.

  • soyeahsowhat

right, except in this case he isn’t a “man”… he plays for the girls’ team…

E! is such a trashy network.

It annoys me how often you don’t read, but jump to type a contrarian opinion.

She didn’t say to ban him. She said for him to sit out until it’s sorted out. Just like police officers are given leave with pay during certain investigations. And that the weight of accusation and investigation should not be on women or victims to decide, but the company that employs him.

Who is she in charge of? No fucking body.

“This is not about his guilt or innocence,” Tarana continued. Apparently it is.
It looks like he has already been declared guilty.

  • Kelly122

Sorry, I completely disagree. By sitting it out it sends a message that he has done something wrong. One accuser, only one, alleging that something happened 10 years ago. In every other case there have been multiple accusers who came forth after the initial one. Not so in this case. Not every woman deserves to be believed at nothing more than her face value. Most, absolutely, but not all women are honest. This appears to be a case that warrants an innocent until proven guilty approach.

  • Kelly122

Which would render the accusation completely false.

A woman’s voice should be enough to trigger a 3rd party investigation. Questioning her motives, appearance, length of wait before reporting or anything else does nothing to help encourage others to speak out. If he sits out for now and gets paid still, how does that hurt him in the slightest? I’m not saying he’s guilty at all. But the point is that it shouldn’t be on us or other women victims to decide how to handle him. His company (E!) should be following common-sense guidelines instead of working on silencing anyone who talks about it.

That thing claims to have been sexually assaulted? The amount of alcohol it would take to make her desirable would be fatal.

  • Reilly

Not necessarily. It’s not the first time a guy has gone over the line trying to prove he is straight. I’m not saying that’s what he has done because I don’t know if he is guilty or not but it is a possibility.

i think it prolly is, based on that alone
