Blu-Ray and Digital HD Releases

I, Tonya

Based on true events, I, Tonya comes out on Blu-Ray and digital HD today. This dark comedy follows American figure skater Tonya Harding who was embroiled in the infamous scandal for the executed attack of fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan.

Starring Oscar nominated Margot Robbie and Allison Janney, the film is portrayed with an air of absurdity that makes it more akin to a thoroughly enjoyable mockumentary.

The movie is presented by Universal films in AVC encoded 1080p format along with a DTS-HD Master audio. Special features include deleted scenes, behind the scenes featurette, and commentary from the director, Craig Gillespie.

Overall, this movie is recommended for the great performances, hilarity, and overall proof of why it was nominated for all those Oscars.

Based off the classic children’s book, Ferdinand arrives today.

This animated rendition of the classic story follows Ferdinand, a fighting bull who escapes a bull-fighting training camp and would rather not fight but live a peaceful life. Adopted by a young girl, Ferdinand’s life comes crashing down when he is caught and returned to his former captors where he is set to fight the undefeted bullfighter, El Primero.

Voiced by John Cena, this sweet film is all about not judging a book by its cover and that fighting is not the only option.

The Blu-ray is available in 4K and 1080p HD format with a DTS-HD-MA audio format.

Extra features include “Ferdinand’s Guide to Healthy Living” by John Cena, various features on the making of the film, and fun kid-friendly activities.

This is a fun family-friendly feature for all ages.

Disaster Artist

Based off the real life story of writer/director Tommy Wiseau, the film follows the making of what’s known as one of the worst movies of all time, The Room.

James Franco does a brilliant job of portraying the rather odd and eccentric Wiseau, enough to land him the Best Actor award at this year’s Golden Globes. Despite the absurdity and premise of the film, the true story is about one man’s unrelenting pursuit to follow his dreams of making a feature film and the bonds of friendship that sustain him throughout.

Presented in AVC encoded 1080p the film is strangely very detailed and sharp for its genre. The audio is also great with its Dolby True HD 7.1 which is accentuated in several scenes of the film.

Special features include various interviews, audio commentary with the cast and Tommy Wiseau himself, and a gag reel.

You don’t have to be familiar with The Room to watch this film, as a stand alone it’s an enjoyable and interesting film that ends up being a decent candidate to pick up and watch.
