Firefighter Dies on the Set of Edward Norton Movie 'Motherless Brooklyn' in NYC

37-year-old firefighter and father of four Michael R. Davidson sadly died on Thursday night (March 22) while battling a fire on the set of the upcoming Edward Norton-directed film, Motherless Brooklyn, in New York City.

His death, due to a critical injury sustained while battling the fire, was confirmed by Edward and producers of the upcoming film in a statement issued on Friday (March 23).

“To our great sorrow, we now know that a NYC firefighter lost his life battling the blaze that grew, and our hearts ache in solidarity with his family. New York City firefighters truly are the bravest in the world. We watched firsthand with astonishment as they charged into the smoke to make sure all were safely out and then fought to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading, putting their lives on the line as they do every day,” said Edward and the producers in a statement.

Flames initially broke out around in the basement of the Harlem apartment house where filming is taking place for the movie. Bruce Willis stars in the upcoming movie.

“Our city lost a hero tonight. The prayers of 8.5 million New Yorkers are with his wife, his four children and his loved ones,” said Mayor Bill DeBlasio in a statement.

Our thoughts are with Michael‘s family and friends at this difficult time.
