Astronaut Alan Bean Dead - 4th Man to Walk on Moon Dies at 86

Astronaut Alan Bean has sadly passed away at 86-years-old, his family confirms.

Alan was the fourth man to walk on the moon when he traveled into space in November 1969 as the pilot of the Apollo 12 behind crew members Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Pete Conrad.

Alan‘s wife Leslie of 40 years confirmed his passing in a statement on Saturday (May 26).

“Alan was the strongest and kindest man I ever knew. He was the love of my life and I miss him dearly,” his wife said in the statement.

Shortly after the news broke, NASA released a statement on Twitter honoring Alan.

“We’re saddened by the passing of astronaut Alan Bean. The fourth person to walk on the Moon, he spent 10-plus hours on the lunar surface during Apollo 12. Bean was spacecraft commander of Skylab Mission II & devoted his retirement to painting,” NASA tweeted.

Our thoughts are with Alan‘s family during this time.
