Sara Gilbert Reflects on ABC's Decision to Cancel 'Roseanne'

Sara Gilbert publicly addressed the Roseanne cancellation for the first time since the news broke while on The Talk on Monday (June 4).

The 43-year-old actress reacted to Roseanne Barr‘s racist tweet hours after it happened, and soon after, ABC announced the show had been canceled.

On Monday’s The Talk, Sara said, “In addition to my statement, I would like to say that this has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say I am proud of the show we made. The show has always been about love, diversity and inclusion and it’s sad to see it end in this way. I am sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However, I do stand behind the decision that ABC made.”

“As a black woman who is a comedienne… I’m happy to see that it was done swiftly,” co-host Sheryl Underwood added.

“Canceling the show so quickly sent a strong message and the right message,” Julie Chen added.

There’s a rumor that Sara‘s character Darlene may be the focus of a Roseanne spinoff.
