Imagine Dragons Singer Dan Reynolds Talks Growing Up Mormon & LGBTQ Documentary 'Believer'

Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds is opening up about his new documentary Believer.

The 30-year-old frontman’s new film aims to bridge a gap between his Mormon faith and the LGBTQ community in a fight for acceptance and equality.

“I was raised Mormon. Anybody that’s raised Mormon knows that…it’s like your whole life is based around it,” Dan explained during an appearance on The Ellen Show.

Dan went on to say he was the black sheep of his family and eventually got kicked out of his Mormon college for having sex, which caused him to feel guilt, judgement and conflicted about his faith.

He added that he had gay Mormon friends who couldn’t come out to their families and saw the difficulties they faced.

“Watching their struggle was awful. And then feeling a bit of shame in my life over something I shouldn’t have been shamed about helped me identity to some degree with what our LGBTQ youth face all the time withing orthodox religion which is feeling guilt and shame about something that is beautiful and perfect and normal,” Dan said.
