'Game of Thrones' Prequel Is Coming to HBO!

Get ready to go back before the time of Game of Thrones!

HBO has ordered the pilot for a prequel series, Variety confirmed on Friday (June 8).

The series is set to take place “thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones,” and would chronicle “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend–it’s not the story we think we know.”

The project comes from writer Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin.

None of the current main cast will be involved, according to George. This is one of five projects to come from the Game of Throne creators, who have previously confirmed that each project is a prequel rather than a spinoff.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will launch in summer 2019.
