John Boyega Slams 'Star Wars' Fans Who Harass the Actors & Actresses

John Boyega is seemingly sticking up for Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, who quit Instagram over harassment.

“If you don’t like Star Wars or the characters understand that there are decisions makers and harassing the actors/ actresses will do nothing. You’re not entitled to politeness when your approach is rude. Even if you paid for a ticket!” John tweeted moments ago on Tuesday (June 12). “To the majority of Star Wars fans thank you for supporting and putting yourselves in our shoes. You understand that there is a process so much appreciated !”

John has played the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Yes, lets make this about the fans instead of the garbage that we non-fans and fans have had shoved down our throats. What’s wrong with admitting the new movies are horrendous? I mean… you look at Rogue One then these movies and you can’t help but see why people hate them but love Rogue One.

While I agree, its not the actors who make the plots and the stories, they promote it falsely, they make entire tours promoting this garbage as something when its actually something else. They make money off of misleading us all. Not counting residuals. They enable the studios by not standing up for quality and development. Then go out and lie their btts off to get peopel so looking forward to something that never actually is what is created.

So its not as if they dont have some responsibility.

Anyways, I hated these movies, I did love Rogue One; I never saw Darth Vader before Rogue one on the big screen and really he’s pretty much IT for Star Wars. Whatever happens now, its clear that no one is interested in Star wars after the Empire, they want everything during the Empire and before it.

Fortunately, there is A LOT of source material for all of that.

hating a movie DOES NOT give you permission to say hateful, offensive things. if you don’t like the movie, don’t watch it and shut up about it. no one is forcing you to watch it or pay for a ticket. that’s your own choice. if you believe everything actors say about a movie, then you’ll always be disappointed. just because it wasn’t what you wanted does not devalue their work. they’re human beings, not robots. go make your own movies if you’re so dissatisfied.

preach! ntm it’s literally their *job* to go out and promote/sell a movie. if they were to be openly critical of it, they’d get fired (and likely wouldn’t be compensated for the promotional tour). that’s the way the business works, if anyone has a problem with that, they should stop giving the industry their money because it’s not going to change.

boyega’s point is, if you have issues with the material, the actors are not the people to take it out on. they have no control over the actual stories portrayed and they are paid to go out and sell the movie, regardless of how they personally feel about it. (I’m sure he didn’t like getting sidelined in TLJ despite being positioned as one of the lead protagonists in TFA, but if he were to complain about that publicly, he would be seen as not fulfilling his promotional obligation.) promo tours are advertising, which is largely composed of “lying” – that’s just consumer capitalism 101.

as for the content, this franchise was honestly doomed the second disney bought it – they are all about the cash grab, so pleasing the masses is always the goal because they want as huge an audience as possible to see each movie. casual fans and strangers to the franchise far outnumber hardcore SW fans, so those are the demographics they’re trying to appeal to. they literally don’t care what anyone thinks about their movies as long as they make money, so if disgruntled fans still go back to see the movies despite not liking them, nothing’s going to change.

No one forces actors to lie about content. If they go on a tour promising Darth Vader for example and there is no Darth Vader, fans have every right to hate on that.

People hate these movies because they were lied to. We all were expecting epic Jedi fight scenes, a Jedi order and instead we got a pair of wankers chancing alien horses and a hermit suking on the tits of fish.

….Oh God Im getting angry just recalling all the trash in these movies.

they are told what to say by publicists for the movie. if they deter from that, they risk losing their jobs. look at some damn “spoilers” if you’re so concerned it won’t have what you want. even the trailers show most of what happens.

get a f*cking grip. stop complaining about movies you hate and find ones you love. so you’re disappointed? move on. it’s not that difficult.

Thats the problem. People loved Star wars, now they hate them. Why is it no one cares about studios abusing the fans?

  • tay

Don’t use the word abuse so lightly. You’re not being abused. You’re whining because you didn’t get your way. Studios don’t care about anything but money. It’s been that way since the beginning of the industry. Jeez, JUST MOVE ON. Stop wasting your life complaining about it. You can still love the other movies. No one’s stopping you.
