Sophia Bush Didn't Want to Marry Chad Michael Murray, Reveals the Reason She Did

Sophia Bush was asked about her short marriage to her One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray, who she met on set and married in 2005 (before splitting five months later.)

“Everybody’s been 22 and stupid,” Sophia told Andy Cohen on his Sirius Xm show. “It was not a thing I actually really wanted to do. Ladies have to learn how to take up space in a way men are taught they are entitled to!”

Andy asked for further clarification that how she could marry someone who she didn’t really want to marry. Sophia responded, “Because how do you let everybody down and how do you- what’s the fight and when you have bosses telling you that you’re the only person who gets a person to work on time and 200 people either get to see their kids at night or they don’t because our days start on time.”

“Life is always loaded,” she said. “What the public knows ever is never- it’s not the tip of the iceberg. Hilarie [Burton] and I used to laugh and we were like, ‘If we had a behind-the-scenes show, the drama would be so much f–king better than the drama that the writers write.’”

Damn, that’s some shade lol. It’s pretty well known that he cheated on her, sounds like she will never forgive him for it. And I believe her about that show, sounds like it was hell for the women.

  • Barry

Pretty sure she would have never say that about One Tree Hill’s writing, if Mark Schwann was still a respected producer.

Everyone’s been 22 and stupid yes but that usually just means you partied all night. Not married someone.

What a load of crap. “Oh I only got married because he was always late for work and I had to make sure he didn’t hold up the crews day.”

People call of their weddings all the time. Yes of course it’s sad but if you’re not happy no matter what others say then you’re not happy and you can speak up. So don’t blame others for your weaknesses.

You chose to get married and it ended badly, but don’t turn around what 10 years later or something and try to make it as though you were the poor put upon little woman who didn’t have a voice or rights because the big bad boss men told you what to do…you’re a joke!

Serious shade here! He’s a flake anyway and she’s annoying.

  • Lola

That’s why there was so much drama behind the scenes when Chad started dating Kenzie Dalton, the 17 year old he proposed too months after their divorce. The screaming matches she used to get into with that girl, but hey, if you wanna say you were 22 and stupid and felt pressured into marring him when no one was pressuring you, go ahead. Play the victim and get annoyed when people question what happened.
It damaged her so bad that she hasnt been able to have a steady relationship since; whenever they get serious she bounces so fast.

  • cf86713

Yeah I don’t get how any of this makes her look good here? I mean he’s clearly moved on despite his eff ups. He’s married with kids and doesn’t acknowledge her existence and nobody asks him about her because he doesn’t mention her to begin with.

I didn’t even watch the show and this chick seems really obnoxious to me.

  • Ausangel01

So true. She still sounds really bitter and angry and if she didn’t want to get married in the first place then why still hang onto the anger?

Move on and find a better path forward. He certainly has.

  • Lola

The Sophia the public sees and the Sophia she is in private, are two totally different people.
She’s still bitter that she got made a fool out of by Chad and wants to make it seem like it was everyone else’s fault instead of hers.
She fell for him, she married him when they both had no business being in a relationship with each other. That’s that.
There’s no reason to say she felt pressured into it, for what? A job that was constantly on the bubble and on the verge of being cancelled? People cancel weddings all the time. She isnt the first person to get divorced and she wont be the last but she was not talked into marrying someone. That is such a bullshit.

  • cf86713

Yes when you factor in she divorced him 5 months later. So that’s okay though but calling off the wedding was unacceptable lol. I don’t care that she hates him but people cheering her on her public displays of bitterness make me cringe. If the roles were reversed we’d be talking about what a loser he is for not moving forward.

  • anonymous

God could she be more petty. Get the fuck over yourself girl . lol she keeps bashing him for what he did but how many of the guys on that show did she sleep with .

“Ladies have to learn how to take up space in a way men are taught they are entitled to!”

Let me guess, that’s why you need Feminism, right? xD

Bcs you need to subscribe to a hive mind and obey the cult leaders, instead of owning all your power yourself and be actually strong and independent person yourself, so you preserve all your individual power and freedom.

And I wanna ask, who was stopping her from “take up space”, or even who taught her otherwise?

The answer is – probably no one.

Most likely the key lies within her own statement, “Everybody’s been 22 and stupid”.

At least she was, it was her own ADULT decision, which she took herself. Why is she trying to attribute her own personal flaws onto everyone else?

    In-fucking-deed.

Just bcs she took a bad personal decision, it seems easier for her to blame it on “society”, meaning everyone else, instead of taking responsibility for her own mistakes.

And I don’t mean it in the sense of “taking the blame for”, rather for a person to face one own’s mistakes and learn from the decisions you’ve made.

Just acknowledging it was a mistake, not even acknowledging the fact that it was actually your personal decision, won’t help you in the long run and you’ll probably do similar mistakes in the future.

Even if was her upbringing that contributed to her poor decisioning, it’s still her personal case and not the general case.

It’s not the middle ages anymore, most ppl are brought up as individuals and are allowed and even endorsed to try and make their own decisions.

Hence, I think it’s kinda misguided and dishonest to say “Ladies have to learn”, when it’s rather Her and her personal and individual case and issue.

But I guess it’s easier to project your issues onto others, and generalize a whole group of ppl instead.
