Natalie Portman Backs Out of TV Deal After Declining to Accept Award in Israel

Natalie Portman has decided to pull out of a deal to acquire the TV rights for the best-selling book Harpoon.

The 37-year-old Oscar-winning actress was in the process of acquiring the rights to the book where she would have portrayed a real-life Israeli attorney whose mission to is fight international terrorism.

Co-author and attorney from the book Nitsana Darshan-Leitner believes that Natalie dropped out of the project amid backlash she received after she declined to accept an award in Israel back in April.

“She’s such an amazing talent and with her Israeli background would have been really perfect in a Middle Eastern intelligence drama like this” the author told The Blast. “It’s so unfortunate the award incident happened as we were trying to conclude.”

Natalie – an Israeli citizen who was born in Jerusalem – she said was declining award because of “the mistreatment of those suffering from today’s atrocities is simply not in line with my Jewish values.”
