Kendrick Lamar Discusses National Anthem Protests & Kanye West's Views with 'Vanity Fair'

Kendrick Lamar is on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine’s August 2018 issue!

Here’s what the entertainer had to share with the mag…

On navigating his success: “We’ve got to get to the root of never having these things. I look back to when I was 16 years old and thought, What would I do with a million dollars? I’m gonna buy this, I’m gonna buy that … Then I thought that me doing that is actually hurting people I’m responsible for. I’m the first in my family to have this kind of success, so I took it upon myself to wisely navigate this success, because I wanted them to be successful, too.”

On Kanye West‘s views: “He has his own perspective, and he’s on this whole agree-to-disagree thing, and I would have this conversation with him personally if I want to.”

On the NFL protests and what he thinks of the NFL: “I’m less enthused. It’s enraging; I think what Kap [Colin Kaepernick] is doing is honest, and it’s not just his truth, it’s our truth.”

Problem is no one knows what exactly Kap’s goals are. So how can his truth be all our truths.
He never stated what he wants to happen to meet those goals. All he did was kneel and because he left a void he allowed Trump to walk in and define what it all means.
