This would also be a reunion for Greta, Saoirse and Timothee, who all worked together on Lady Bird.

Saoirse would play Jo, Emma would play Meg, Meryl would play Marmee, and Timothee would play Laurie Laurence. Florence Pugh would play Amy, and actresses are expected be tested opposite Emma for the role of Beth before the Fourth of July weekend according to the report.

Greta was initially brought on to rewrite the script, but has been promoted to helming the film.

The original novel follows the March sisters in post-Civil War America, and has been adapted several times into films, including the 1994 version starring Winona Ryder.

there’s a difference between a remake and an adaptation. this movie will be an adaptation of a book that’s been adapted MANY times. none of them are remakes.

  • lulubelle

    Wrong.

Nope. But thanks for the compelling argument.

Great…just what we need. Another movie with all white people during a period when ethnic minorities “didn’t exist”. Same old, same old story and names involved. Where is the creativity in hollywood to stop rehashing old stories, period dramas, and remakes to start telling new, fresh stories with diverse casts?!
