Ray Emery Dead - Former NHL Goalie Drowns at 35

Ray Emery has sadly died at the age of 35, reportedly due to drowning.

The Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, who played in the NHL for eleven seasons, died after going for a swim on Saturday (July 14) with friends. He did not emerge, according to police.

“At this time we do not believe there to be any suspicious or foul play. We do believe this is a case of misadventure,” said Insp. Marty Schulenberg of the Hamilton Police Service.

Mr. Emery had gone for a swim and did not surface after he dove in the water. All of the events leading up to him diving in are still part of our investigation.”

His body was reportedly found by divers at 2:50 p.m. on Sunday (July 15) in Hamilton Harbour in Hamilton, Ontario.

Ray was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 2001, and helped to lead the team to the Stanley Cup finals in 2007. He also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks. He won the Stanley Cup in 2013 with the Blackhawks.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ray’s family and friends. Rest in peace, Razor,” the Philadelphia Flyers wrote on Sunday.

Our thoughts are with Ray‘s loved ones at this time.
