Jimmy Bennett Breaks Silence for First Time Since Asia Argento Allegations Went Public

Jimmy Bennett, now 22 years old, has come forward with his first statement since news broke that Asia Argento paid him off for an alleged sexual assault that occurred when he was only 17 years old.

“Many brave women and men have spoken out about their own experiences during the #metoo movement, and I appreciate the bravery that it took for each and every one of them to take such a stand. I did not initially speak out about my story because I chose to handle it in private with the person who wronged me,” Jimmy told the New York Times. “My trauma resurfaced as she came out as a victim herself. I have not made a public statement in the past days and hours because I was ashamed and afraid to be part of the public narrative. I was underage when the event took place, and I tried to seek justice in a way that made sense to me at the time because I was not ready to deal with the ramifications of my story becoming public. At the time I believed there was still a stigma to being in the situation as a male in our society.”

He continued, “I didn’t think that people would understand the event that took place from the eyes of a teenage boy. I have had to overcome many adversities in my life, and this is another that I will deal with, in time. I would like to move past this event in my life, and today I choose to move forward, no longer in silence.”

If you don’t know, Asia adamantly denied having relations with Jimmy, but leaked text messages seem to tell a different story.

she’s a creepy woman and i don’t care if he was 17, he felt victimized and that’s all that matters. right, rose?

With all due respect, I wish his statement included an acknowledgment of the fact that what happened to him does not negate, disprove, or devalue what happened to her (with Harvey Weinstein) despite what his legal team wants everybody to believe… Hopefully people learn from this – as I’d hope he’s learned – the #MeToo movement is for ALL victims/survivors, not just women. I’m disappointed in her, but hopefully it opens up a productive conversation.

  • greppinwolf

Why does he need to defend/explain his abuser? Ridiculous.

  • greppinwolf

17 is under the age of consent in CA.

  • HG

I believe him. At the very least, she had sex with a minor. At the very worst, she’s a child abuser and rapist. And with all of pics and leaked texts coming out, it’s obvious that she’s an outright liar.

  • Sansa Squad

I didn’t say he needed to, I said I wish he did.

  • Vanity

are you kidding me? for all we know argento is a liar which she is her texts prove it. I know she’s a rapist supporter, hence she is apart of rape-culture in Hollywood. kindly stfu & stop supporting rapists.

  • Vanity

I am so glad he spoke out, & outed this fraud once & for all. Argento needs to be behind bars, as with ALL rapists.

  • Kevin Clark

I have no doubt he was taken advantage of as he was a minor. He received $380k. Was that a legal settlement? Or was it just hush money. He doesn’t mention it.

  • Sansa Squad

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Clearly she lied about this – that’s obvious. But that doesn’t automatically mean she was lying about what happened to her in a completely different circumstance. Harvey Weinstein’s legal team – who, by the way, dug all this up as part of a smear job to destroy her credibility in his ongoing legal battle – wants us to think otherwise so they can get HIM acquitted… And while we’re on the subject, Harvey Weinstein has denied every *single* rape/assault/harassment allegation against him (and I think we all know he’s not exactly innocent in all this) – can we not assume that makes him a liar too? Why should he be let off the hook because she did something wrong to someone else? By not acknowledging that simple fact in his statement, Jimmy (intentionally or not) clouds and disrupts the whole #MeToo/Time’s Up conversation instead of making it clear that he’s contributing to it – and adding some much-needed nuance!

ETA: Since you edited your comment after I responded, I’d like to make it abundantly clear I’m not supporting her. I’m offering constructive criticism to him, his publicist, or whomever wrote this on how this statement specifically could be improved to better serve others like him.

I believe it happened. He liked it and probably wanted it but the age difference, power dynamic(in this case) and the parental/authority position she had in his life makes it completely disgusting. He flipped the situation and got a check probably before he really even dealt with the reality of what had happened.

She is a screwed up individual, I have to question a person who has no problem screwing a kid that she played mother to and then publicly lying about it, allowing a man who loved her to pay him off then screwing around on that man behind his back. She has no real sense of right or wrong. What really happened with Harvey?

  • cutitout

It was basically just payment for the picture but there was no hush clause. They were really dumb. And the texts! Why folks have not realized that those can be pulled up and count as evidence boggle the mind.

  • Vanity

Listen Argento says Weinstein raped her in 1997 right? After that she had an affair with him for months that she herself has said so. Who in their right mind continues to sleep with their rapist? hm unless it wasn’t rape…

IF Weinstein dug this all up.. what does it matter? arent you happy that we now know this woman is a rapist? But instead you want to blame HW for giving you the truth? wow…

Then in 2007 she signs a petition to release Roman Polanski a known pedophile rapist. Then in 2013 she rapes this young man. Tries to shut him up with money, uses her man to do all the transactions so she come off like she didn’t participate in the payoff.
This behavior is crystal clear she’s a rapist, a liar & her credibility is out the window for me.

  • Sansa Squad

Someone can be a victim and a perpetrator, a liar and an agent of truth, a person who does good and bad things – and that’s the nuance I’m talking about. Harvey Weinstein is the scum of the earth but, to your point, he did have a hand in exposing a statutory rapist (even if it was for his own selfish benefit)! I do not support her and I’d love to not even have to defend her, because I find her actions to be truly abhorrent – but on principle I feel compelled to point out how misguided and irresponsible it is to dismiss her role in the Weinstein narrative over this alone… And just like I think his statement could better serve the #MeToo/Time’s Up movements by clarifying that, I think SHE could better serve the movement by owning up to this and stepping away from it.

  • Vanity

Weinstein is a separate matter & what he has done he will pay for.. & is paying for atm, but what about Argento how will she pay? Im concerned that this woman will get away with what she’s done, as you should be too. She is no longer apart of the movement, its pretty obvious this woman will now fade away from the limelight.

How do people not see what he did as just shameful gold-digging when his heart got broken?? All these women coming forward in the #metoo movement are putting their super private story of being sexually harassed/assaulted out there so that the perpetrator stops the behavior and hopefully gets arrested. This guy just wanted to get laid then paid.

I know that but a lot of people think it’s OK because he was 17

  • skye3245

i understand where you’re coming form. But thats not his job. That would mean in some ways he’s speaking up for her. Him saying that would have to mean he is stepping up for her. This is something she should have done. She should have apologized instead she lied not only about doing it. She said this young man basically extorted her and her bf. We now know she lied there. I think his statement was good for him. He prob didn’t want this to even come out. He’s a young man that now has to deal with this twice. When he first came forward and now that the world knows. She broke his trust. She was a family friend and she crossed lines. Like i said i get where your coming from, but the movement will be ok. She should come forward, apologize to this young man. Her going thru want she went thru doesn’t take away from the damage she caused. The MeToo movement will be ok. But she should step away

  • skye3245

He may not have wanted it. She met him when he was 7. If you meet someone at that young you more than likely don’t see them sexually like that. You can’t just flippantly say they “liked it”. Thats why he deal with it privately and didn’t go public. He literally says in the statement the thing you just pulled up. That was irresponsible. If you had a son and he told you at 15 that a 30 something year old family friend did this, would you ask “did you like it”?

Who keeps text messages from five years ago?? This story is super creepy!

  • jodicar

I am much more than disappointed in her.

  • jodicar

Why does he have to support others at this time. He is just 22 telling HIS story.

  • jodicar

What a load of dribble you are slinging.

I mean, blackmailing someone isn’t dealing with it in private, it’s illegal.
I understand the difficulty of coming forward with your story as a victim, but becoming a felon yourself doesn’t solve anything and isn’t acceptable.
