Tyler Perry is Saying Goodbye to Madea After Playing Her for Almost 20 Years

Tyler Perry is ready to let go of Madea.

The 49-year-old actor/director shared in an interview on Bevy Smith‘s SiriusXM show on Monday (October 29) that he’s ready to “kill” off his iconic tough as nail grandmother character.

“It’s time for me to kill that old bitch, I’m tired, man! I’m tired,” Tyler joked.

Tyler first introduced Madea to fans in the 1999 play I Can Do Bad All by Myself in Chicago – and has portrayed her in over 20 movies, plays, and TV shows.

“We gonna say goodbye in ’19. I just don’t want to be her age playing her,” Tyler said. “So, we’re going to say goodbye to her.”

Tyler then went on to say that he has a “farewell tour” play in the works for Madea.

“All the originals, we’re going to be out there doing it again,” Tyler said, referring to the original actors who were involved in his play. “We’ll be out there.”

Tyler will be saying goodbye to Madea in the upcoming movie A Madea Family Funeral – which is set to hit theaters in March 2019.
