John Mayer on His Controversial Past: 'I Haven't Been a D-ck in Many Years'

John Mayer is opening up in his new Billboard magazine cover story.

Here’s what the 41-year-old entertainer had to share with the mag…

On seeking forgiveness for his controversial past: “Some people still say, ‘That guy’s a d*ck.’ And I go, ‘Well, any of that data you’re working off of is really old.’ I mean, I can tell you for sure that I haven’t been a dick in many years. That’s a really outdated take… I probably had a run in my life where I wasn’t aware that there was anything I couldn’t have. And it made a monster out of me. And there’s something very freeing about you can’t.”

On why he’s focusing on putting out singles: “The world is changing every four weeks. So if you’re not putting a song out within a month of you writing it, you’re probably late to your own party of how you saw the world.”

On his respect for Rihanna: “If you told me Rihanna was on Easter Island right now, I’d go, ‘Seems fair.’ That’s an artist with a circadian rhythm that I admire. It’s just like a blind person, man. She might call you at four in the morning. That’s an artist.”
