Jessica Simpson Calls Out Natalie Portman, Asks Her Not to 'Shame Other Women for Their Choices'

UPDATE: Natalie has issued a response to Jessica‘s statement. Read it here.

Jessica Simpson is “disappointed” by Natalie Portman‘s comments about her bikini photo from years and years ago.

In a recent interview, Natalie told USA Today, “I remember being a teenager, and there was Jessica Simpson on the cover of a magazine saying ‘I’m a virgin’ while wearing a bikini, and I was confused. Like, I don’t know what this is trying to tell me as a woman, as a girl.”

Jessica took to her Twitter account to write, “I was disappointed this morning when I read that I ‘confused’ you by wearing a bikini in a published photo taken of me when I was still a virgin in 1999. As public figures, we both know our image is not totally in our control at all times, and that the industry we work in often tries to define us and box us in. However, I was taught to be myself and honor the different ways all women express themselves, which is why I believed then – and I believe now – that being sexy in a bikini and being proud of my body are not synonymous with having sex.”

Jessica continued, “I have always embraced being a role model to all women to let them know that they can look however they want, wear whatever they want and have sex or not have sex with whomever they want. The power lies within us as individuals.”

“I have made it my practice to not shame other women for their choices. In this era of Time’s Up and all the great work you have done for women, I encourage you to do the same,” Jessica concluded.

Shut the fuck up Jessica Simpson. Who did you pay to write this for you. We all saw your dumb high ass on Ellen and didnt even know what the hell you were talking about

Jessica clearly didn’t write this, but that’s okay. She approved it. Not the first person to have someone do their writing for them. But whatever the case, she nailed it. She’s absolutely right.

I don’t see how NP being confused about the message sent by the magazine cover equals to her shaming JS. But go off, I guess

She called her out on something she said nearly twenty years ago?

EDIT: Oh I see she said it recently.

How exactly did what Natalie said shame anyone? The industry often forced teen girls into professing to be virgins while tarting them up so they could straddle the fence between adult, teen/child demographics. For whatever reason, parents were more OK with their little girls watching pop stars bouncing around stages half naked as long as they claimed to be “good-girls” while grinding. They made Britney claim to be a virgin when she actually lost her virginity at 14 and she was living with Justin Timberlake!

She is right but its irrelevant because Natalie never said anything against her. She missed the entire point of what was originally said.

I know what she said. I read it as plain as day. She said she didn’t know what THAT meant for HER as a woman.

Someone should have clued poor Jess in before she popped off.

They do whatever works to get attention. The parents are typical showbiz ones. JS’s parents went with the religion angle while at the same time pushing the size of the girl’s chest. Sex was selling and the young virgin innocent schoolgirl act was just a part of it.

She claimed to be a virgin on her wedding night yet had no problem, after the divorce, sleeping with men she wasn’t married to and even at least one who was married to someone else. JS needed some media attention while the people running the company which bears her name were busy. Some of those fashions look like they were meant for kids.

Some people like media attention now and then. It is about the mixed messages put out by the media and not about what she in particular is wearing.
