Camila Cabello Explains How She & Taylor Swift Became Friends

Camila Cabello is opening up about meeting Taylor Swift for the first time and becoming close friends with her.

The 21-year-old singer has been very open with her fans about how she idolized Taylor growing up before ever meeting her and touring with her.

Camila met Taylor for the first time at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, where she was appearing with Fifth Harmony.

“I remember I was in my group at the time and we’d just won an award,” Camila told Billboard. “I was like, ‘It’s the perfect opportunity to say hi to her.’ Her and Ella [Yelich-O’Connor] — Lorde — were sitting next to each other, and I was like, ‘I just wanted to say I’m such a huge fan of you guys and I love your music and you’ve inspired me so much.’ They were like, ‘Thanks.’”

Camila saw them again at the after party. “She was just like, ‘Hey, come sit,’” she said. “We were just talking and, yeah, we became friends. I feel like we’re really similar as people. We’re both very emotional and like a lot of the same things. Even small things like poetry or the same kind of films or very girly kind of stuff.”

“There’s definitely moments where it feels like, I don’t know, my brain is 100 percent confused,” Camila said about her past year. “When I was on the Reputation Tour, [Swift] would sing an old song every night from past albums, and she would just give me flashbacks of when I was 13. That’s weird, because I’m, like, right here, every night.”
