Angelina Jolie Pens a Piece About Refugee Crisis for 'The Economist'

Angelina Jolie is speaking her mind.

The 43-year-old actress and humanitarian wrote an article in The Economist‘s The World in 2019 issue published on Tuesday (December 18), entitled “How to alleviate the refugee crisis.”

The annual magazine forecasts what is to come in 2019.

“We live in divisive times. However, history also shows our ability to unite, overcome a global crisis and renew our sense of purpose and community with other nations. That is the greatest strength of an open society,” Angelina writes.

Go Angelina – while your ex husband is busy smearing you and the children, you are out there actually helping others.

  • mahbelle

STFU you sad sack of bitchy bones

  • plez

Angelina is writing about a sense of purpose and you are writing about conspiracy theory based on your inability to think past your hate. Wow what a fan of Angelina.

  • Vanity

Actually the only way to fix the refugee problem is for the UNHCR/UN to buy an island & send all refugees there. Most countries that refugees go to are struggling themselves & can’t really help these people & the UNHCR does not help the way they really need to. Most if not all refugees are in poverty. Stop the PR agendas & actually try to help..

  • mahbelle

Skeletor needs some positive PR so she’s putting on her sad face and will probably go visit some refugee before Christmas.

  • plez

This doesn’t solve the refugee problem. Just diverts it to another piece of land.

  • Felinelilly

Hate is all they’re capable of. It hasn’t registered to them that Angelina spends her time fighting against it. She would be ashamed of these people and apalled.

  • Vanity

really? so giving these people an actual home isn’t solving a problem? you are delusional. yes they should live in huts & starve..

  • Felinelilly

With terrorism being global now, the way things have been with this huge influx of immigrants and terrorists infiltrating the migrant groups, wide open borders is not working. There needs to be a plan in place where everyone shares responsibility, not just European countries.

  • bap

There were rumors from his stans that he study journalism in college but he has never written any articles to help out others.

Oh wait that is what he has his tabloids for.

  • Vanity

like I said, the plan the UNHCR & its “envoys” have isn’t working. Investing in actual homes/country for these people would be a positive. Countries like Finland have solved homelessness with this very idea, why is the UNHCR/UN not implementing it? Because everything they do is based on not actually helping end the refugee problem. And Jolie is part of the problem.

Angelina Jolie smiles while leaving the Burbank airport

Angelina Jolie was photographed on Monday morning, December 17, when he left the Burbank airport in California.

It seems that Angelina may have made a flight on his private plane, the actress is licensed to fly small planes since 2005.

As he walked to his SUV, Jolie chatted happily with an airport employee.

Thank you Angie for speaking of what could be and laying out a path to achieve that goal. People flee their homes because they find themselves in terrible situations that lead them to seek safety and security outside their countries. They do this in desperation. If they had safety and security in their own countries most would not seek to migrate elsewhere.

This is a WORLDWIDE problem, not belonging to any one region to solve alone. It requires collective global action to solve. Building walls is no solution. It also requires the guts to do the right thing toward all human beings no matter who they are or where they are from. It requires what I would call adopting utopian thinking that when all lives are lifted all are benefitted.

Do I see this happening anytime soon, NO I do not.

Terrorism of all kinds is found everywhere today and wars enhance their numbers. Authoritarian and Dictatorial leaders do not want this, and until they are swept out of power little can be done toward achieving a solution to what is happening in the world today.

    Angie’s words ring true…
“Instead, we must reduce the number of displaced people worldwide by preventing and solving the conflicts that drive them from their homes”

  • Vanity

“Instead, we must reduce the number of displaced people worldwide by preventing and solving the conflicts that drive them from their homes”

This is laughable, & something that is unachievable … its just like the wishes people make… to end world hunger, to end poverty, world peace… its a dream & Jolie’s PR poison is just a facade for people like you who commend her for actually not doing anything to help.

How will buying and island fix the problem. The problem of refugees is GROWING; pretty soon that island will be overrun with people. What next, buy another island and another and another. What about food, drinking water, roads, education, sanitation medical facilities and supplies, etc. Does the UN have unlimited funds? Yeah, that can’t work. It doesn’t solve the problem of the conflicts which produce more and more refugees.

  • Orianna Petroy

Not all the European countries shares responsibilities. All the heavy part is for Greece and Italy.Let’s not act like we’re all saints.
This is the center of my island ,summertime, 2016,full with tourists.Tourists that will never turn back ,because of these images
    https://greece.greekreporter.com/files/kos-Migrant.jpg
But Greek people didn’t care. All they care is saving lives, then and now.
We helped them, finding shelters, trying to feed them ,because most of european countries closed the borders
Ohhh and of course leave Angie alone. If everyone of us would do 5% of what she does ,the world would be much better place
    Just stop,OK????

  • Vanity

Agreed!!! Greece is dealing with so many issues as a country alone, & helping refugees is something that they cannot continue. Why I think refugees should have their own country supplied for by the United Nations, just like they gave Jews, Israel.

  • plez

All they care is saving lives, then and now.

Hopefully the US will get back to this.

  • Felinelilly

That was impeding on Palestinian land though. See how well that’s working out, over years the oppressed have become the oppressors.

  • Orianna Petroy

There’s no way they’ll get back to this.
Just read the article. All they care is the “ruin holidays”
    https://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2015/05/28/daily-mail-refugees-ruin-britons-holidays-turning-kos-into-disgusting-hellhole/
All we care is helping them .And trust me Greece this year was 100% full with tourists.God helped us ,cuz we behaved the way we should. And had patience

  • Vanity

NO one can stop conflicts ever. Its a dream that is not attainable. Once you understand that you need to move forward with plans that benefit refugees & also benefit countries that are struggling as well.
Are you the UN’s economist? Do you know how powerful the UN actually is?
You do know that they feed & help all countries that have refugees in them? Solely. If they can do that they can implement a serious plan.

UNHCR is focusing on a dream to stop conflicts but we all know there will always be WARS.

Well.. I suggested an island, & that goes to show you that the UN/UNHCR & their envoys have other agendas & they do not do the right thing by refugees. hence my point all along.

Trump Foundation agrees to dissolve with judge to oversee dispersal

The Trump Foundation, the charitable foundation started by President Donald Trump years before he became a presidential candidate, which New York’s top prosecutor said exhibited a “shocking pattern of illegality,” will dissolve according to a court filing.

The foundation will give away its assets to other non-profit organizations in the next 30 days.

The Attorney General’s Office for New York says that this agreement that they’ve entered into with the Trump Foundation and signed by foundation attorney Alan Futerfas.

It does not stop the lawsuit by AG’s office has filed against the foundation, which was formed in 1987 and that action will continue.

“Our petition detailed a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation — including unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing, and much more,” state AG Barbara Underwood said in a statement.

“This amounted to the Trump Foundation functioning as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump’s business and political interests.”

  • AeeJay

you really are picking a straws aren’t ya. I think the point was the power of the United Nations.

  • Felinelilly

I actually thought of the same thing a while back, an island but just in general, a piece of land because refugees need land and space. But it wouldn’t be feasible, economically it wouldn’t work. Who would pay for construction of entire cities, houses, etc.
There’s no easy solution, period. No one was prepared for the enormous influx of migrants and everything is still a clusterfuck now. I would love for every immigrant to have a roof over their head and all they need rapidly, but unfortunately that’s not the case. There needs to be a plan in place but there isn’t. And as it is our own government is too busy screwing us over. Europe has no clue what to do and those unelected fat cats in Brussels, even less aside from giving orders as to what each country should do. The anger going on right now isn’t against the immigrants, but against the government’s shite.

  • AeeJay

If not buying an island building homes in the countries they go to. The way they live is atrocious.

The power of the UN? Aside from getting blocked on every decision by Russia and China therefore being able to achieve nothing? Not much.
I respect every person in the field working to improve the lives of refugees around the world. But as far as fixing the issues at the root so that people don’t need to leave their country, what’s been done to stop Al Asad (sp), what’s been done in Yemen, etc? Nothing.

  • Vanity

Thats where people like Jolie come into play, instead of actually doing nothing like she does, hold fundraisers for a start it should start as not for profit & eventually could move forward into an actual country with currency.

Flynn in court for sentencing, with ‘Good luck’ wish from Trump

Update: A federal judge told former national security adviser Michael Flynn that “arguably you sold your country out.”

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan said he “can’t hide my disgust, my disdain” for this criminal offense. He said Flynn committed a “very serious offense” by lying to the FBI on the premises of the White House

The judge asked Flynn if he wants to postpone his sentencing so that he can get full credit for his cooperation. He said he’ll take into account Flynn’s service to the country and his cooperation, but will also factor in aggravating factors in deciding his sentence.

Earlier, a prosecutor with special counsel Robert Mueller’s office said it’s possible that Flynn may continue to cooperate going forward.

But prosecutor Brandon Van Grack told the judge at the sentencing hearing Tuesday that the government was ready to sentence Flynn because of the extensive cooperation he’s already given, which includes help that led to a foreign lobbying indictment in Virginia that was made public a day earlier.

Van Grack did not elaborate on the type of investigations or issues that Flynn might be called upon to cooperate with in the future. Normally, defendants are sentenced at the conclusion of their cooperation so that a judge can evaluate how much credit they deserve for helping the government.

Also, a federal judge made sure that Flynn entered his guilty plea knowingly and voluntarily. That’s because of a defense memo in which Flynn said the FBI never warned him that it was against the law to lie to federal agents.

He pleaded guilty last year to lying to the FBI.

Sullivan asked Flynn a series of questions Tuesday to make sure that Flynn wants to move forward with his sentencing hearing. Flynn told the judge that he did indeed know that it was a crime to lie to the FBI. He also said he doesn’t want to formally challenge the FBI’s interview of him.

No one said that conflict will stop. What I’m saying is the refugee numbers will always continue to grow BECAUSE of conflict.

I don’t need to be a UN economist to know that sending aid to various countries is not providing sufficient help to these people, they are still struggling. Even the UN knows what they do is not enough. So, if they’re not able to give sufficient help to these countries, what makes you think they’ll be able to do so when these people are ALL on an island?

What I asked is how YOUR plan is suppose to work. But, instead of answering that, you go on the attack about something not related to what I asked you. So, they ship ALL the refugees to an island, what island is that suppose to be? What island is not populated and large enough to hold ALL the refugees, including future growth? Then, how will the issues I mention will be resolved? YOU have a plan, I’m just asking you to elaborate on just how it will work.
