Awkwafina Had to Call Her Grandma After 'The Farewell' Sundance Premiere
Awkwafina walks the carpet at the premiere of her movie The Farewell during the 2019 Sundance Film Festival on Friday (January 25) at the Eccles Center Theatre in Park City, Utah.
The 29-year-old actress, best known for her work in Crazy Rich Asians, was joined at the event by her co-stars Diana Lin and Tzi Ma, as well as writer and director Lulu Wang.
Here is the movie’s synopsis: A headstrong Chinese-American woman returns to China when her beloved grandmother is given a terminal diagnosis. Billi struggles with her family’s decision to keep grandma in the dark about her own illness as they all stage an impromptu wedding to see grandma one last time.
Awkwafina said that she called her grandmother following the premiere. She tweeted, “After seeing #thefarewellmovie I had to to FT my Gma to tell her I love her and that she inspires me every day.”
At the festival, Awkwafina stopped by the Pizza Hut x Legion M Lounge and the IMDb Studio at Acura Festival Village. A celebration for the film was hosted at the DIRECTV Lodge presented by AT&T.
