Chris Pratt Defends His Church After Anti-LGBTQ Claims

Chris Pratt is speaking out to defend his church after Ellen Page claimed that the church holds anti-LGBTQ beliefs.

The Oscar-nominated actress criticized Stephen Colbert for letting Chris talk about his religious beliefs on The Late Show, but for not questioning him about the church’s alleged views on LGBTQ people.

“It has recently been suggested that i belong to a church which ‘hates people’ and is ‘infamously anti-LGBTQ.’ Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone,” Chris wrote in a lengthy message on his Instagram Stories.

“Despite what the Bible says about divorce my church community was there for me every step of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk,” Chris continued. “They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender.”

Chris added, “My faith is important to me but no church defines me or my life, and I am not a spokesman for any church or group of people. My values define who I am. We need less hate in this world, not more. I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgement of their fellow man.”

“Jesus said ‘I give you a new command, love one another.’ This is what guides me in my life. He is a God of Love, Acceptance, and Forgiveness. Hate has no place in my or this world,” he concluded.

then the church might want to amend that statement the leader made a few years back about not supporting homosexuality and not supporting gay marriage. the church has also stated it does not support the gay ‘lifestyle’ nor can any gay person that joins the church be a leader.

  • Ash

You owe zero explanation to those heathens. Ellen page is one of too many hypersensitive idiots in Hollyweird.

  • Kim and Luke BG

So what if people don’t like his church. Don’t go to it or donate to it then.

  • johnackerby

Yea they treated divorced chris pratt well but that’s just because he’s a straight white male, divorce is too common to exclude divorced people, and Pratt is rich, famous, and popular. And it shouldn’t only matter to chris pratt if the church treated him well. It should also matter to chris pratt if the church treeats other people bad. The bottom line is that the church’s platform is that gay people are 2nd class citizens. And chris pratt supports this church so that means he supports treating gay people as 2nd class citizens. It means he supports hating-on gay people.

  • johnackerby

Oh yes he does owe us an explanation because we the people pay for him to enjoy a lavish lifestyle. I’m a straight white male and I will never pay to see a Chris Pratt movie again. I will however see a free pirated Chris Pratt movie whenever I can. I despise haters. They’re disgusting.

  • johnackerby

That’s exactly what the leader said and this means the church relegates gay people to a 2nd class status and proclaims that gays live bad lives and they’re unworthy of acceptance.

And of course this is the kind of garbage that goes through the minds of gay-killers when they kill gay people. The killers figure that gay people are indecent lesser life-forms so it’s OK to kill them. And where do gay killers get these ideas from? They get these ideas from churches like Hillsong and the people like Chris Pratt who support those kinds of churches.

  • johnackerby

And also don’t pay to see chris pratt movies either. Only see free pirate Chris Pratt movies.

It is not a “platform” or agenda or whatever term people would like to call it like it is some political party or organisation. It is written in the Bible that a man should not lie with a man. That is the same Bible used in any Christian faith, whether you are Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, Episcopalian, etc. And that is the basis of the churches’ teachings, not any man’s/preacher’s/priest’s/leader’s interpretation or opinion or “agenda”.

HOWEVER, the Bibles also teaches about LOVE & forgiveness. Loving one another in Christ…. that means everybody. IT also says we are ALL sinners, no exception. And a church community should/will love all and help each other in good times and bad. I think that is what Chris Pratt is trying to convey. A few words on print doesn’t define everything he believes as a man. SO please stop judging him. If you don’t want to support his movies, that is your free choice.

Churches teach and preach what is in the Bible. As a Christian, I also have questions about things in this world. And I guess I will only have my answers when I ask God one day. Whatever we do in this world and however we live, come Judgement Day, we will all be answerable for our sins to GOD and only to Him.

Also, a side note, as a Christian, I know of gay people who are kind, loving and respectful people. I love them as I know God loves them too.

Why is he even responding? What’s wrong with him? He’s an A-lister and Page is on like C list.

  • Dumb

And yet here you are commenting on a celebrity website. Who is the hypersensitive idiot?

  • Dumb

Nice statement but makes Pratt look ignorant.

  • cutitout

The church can’t re-write what is said in the bible but there are a lot of things written in the bible that the church does not adhere to accept for beliefs on homosexuality. Churches cherry-pick and his statement does not address the actual issue. With that said, people go to church for different reasons and many people disagree with parts of the doctrine but still want to pursue a relationship with God on their own terms so they in return, cherry-pick what they want to listen to or embrace. There are many pro-choice Catholics and Muslims and Jews that eat pork….

“Despite the Bible says about divorce”, his suprême argument, man we are in 2019, yes or no ?

  • Shell

Ex members also came forward saying they were discriminated against because of their sexuality and this was long before it became popular because of Justin and the others.

OH I love these times we’ve been “blessed” to live in. It’s the 21st century, but you’d never know it! We still have to fight, and die, for freedom. For our rights, as human beings for gender equality, race equality, job equality, freedom to love whoever we want (however we want), freedom of religion and now with the added benefit of having to retract and issue apologies for having opinions, cause God forbid you offend anyone! Oh wait, I just said God, so I’m forcing the word and my beliefs on someone out there. So, so sorry… Oh and lets not forget the millions of children and adults that still go hungry and homeless and sick, dying every day, probably within a few miles of anyone’s home. Yet, here we are. Tolerance, it goes both ways, but it’s sadly obvious neither the left of the right has learned that yet.

  • Max

sure. and scientology is not recruting. *roll eyes* question is, do he actually believe this is true (can he be that stupid?) or is he campaining for them for another reason?

  • Max

Bullshit, he’s a freakin’ liar!!! Not gonna watch his movies anymore!!! CANCELED!!!

  • Kim and Luke BG

Then you will be boycotting many many movies. Yet I bet you watch Woody Allen films? Chris is so popular a small amount of boycott will make no difference.
