Bruno Ganz Dead - 'Downfall' Actor Dies at 77

Bruno Ganz has passed away at the age of 77.

The actor was best known for his role as Adolf Hitler in the 2004 movie Downfall.

Ganz was praised for his performance in the film, though the movie itself faced some criticism for humanizing Hitler.

“What people need is for Hitler to actually represent evil itself. But what is evil itself? That means nothing to me. I have to perform a living human being,” Ganz said in an interview in 2005 (via Variety).

“We know how to judge Hitler,” he added. “We don’t need another film that condemns him. We already know where we stand on this. I mean, there is certainly no sympathy for Hitler in the film.”
