Not only was it Spike‘s first non-honorary Oscar, but it was also presented by his good friend Samuel L. Jackson.
After Sam announced Spike‘s name, he ran to the stage and jumped into his arms.
“Before the world tonight, I give praise to my ancestors who built our country, along with the genocide of our native people. We all connect with ancestors, to regain our humanity. It will be a powerful moment,” Spike said during his speech.
