Johnny Depp Files $50 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Ex Amber Heard

Johnny Depp is suing his ex, Amber Heard.

The 55-year-old actor filed a defamation lawsuit against the 32-year-old actress for $50 million, claiming her domestic abuse allegations are “an elaborate hoax” according to The Blast.

“Ms. Heard purported to write from the perspective of ‘a public figure representing domestic abuse’ and claimed that she ‘felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out’ when she ‘spoke up against sexual violence,’” the lawsuit reads in reference to Amber‘s piece in the Washington Post in December of 2018.

Johnny describes her allegations as “an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity” to “advance her career.”

“Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse; she is a perpetrator,” the suit claims.

“Ms. Heard also knew that her elaborate hoax worked: as a result of her false allegations against Mr. Depp, Ms. Heard became a darling of the #MeToo movement, was the first actress named a Human Rights Champion of the United Nations Human Rights Office, was appointed ambassador on women’s rights at the American Civil Liberties Union, and was hired by L’Oreal Paris as its global spokesperson,” his attorney added.

The former couple settled their divorce in 2016.

“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity,” the couple said in a joint statement at the time.
