Leonardo DiCaprio Shared a Petition & Now Russia Has Released 100 Captive Whales!

If you’ve ever wondered why it’s important for celebrities to use their platforms for the greater good, here’s a perfect example.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who is one of the most socially-minded celebs out there, simply asked his fans to sign a petition to urge the release of 100 captive whales… and it worked!

Pictures appeared last year of the animals being held in captivity on Russia’s Pacific coast. They were held in cruel conditions by people who allegedly planned on selling the animals to aquariums in China.

Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to step in just days after Leo shared a petition online.

“Please sign this petition and join me in speaking out against the inhumane capture of orcas and belugas in Russia,” Leo wrote on Twitter.

We’re glad that the whales will be released!
