'This Is Us' Star Exits Series Regular Status After Season 3

SPOILER ALERT – Do not continue reading if you haven’t watched the season finale of This Is Us yet!

The season three finale of This Is Us just aired and it has confirmed that one of the show’s series regulars will not be returning with the same status in season four.

While this star will likely still be appearing in upcoming episodes, the “guest star” status allows the actor to take other jobs and not be locked in to This Is Us full time.

So who is it?

Melanie Liburd, who plays the role of Beth’s cousin Zoe, is not returning as a series regular. She debuted on the show in the season two finale and was a regular for season three.

Zoe entered into a relationship with Justin Hartley‘s Kevin during this past season, but they broke up during the finale over her not wanting to have kids.

“We don’t want to hold on to her and then not have the real estate for her,” executive producer Isaac Aptaker told TVLine. “She’s an amazing actress and she has a ton of opportunities… We don’t want to stop her from [getting another full-time gig].”

He added, “Whenever there are opportunities for Zoe to come back — which [would be] pretty organic because she touches on Kevin’s life as well as, of course, Beth and Randall’s life — we’re eager to have her back… We love Melanie so much. She’s a friend of the show and she did an amazing job for us; we love her both as an actor and as a person.”
